Hey People,

Just looking for a bit of help with this one since (of course) I'm getting conflicting advice from all quarters.

I NEED to get some of my pay onto/into my credit cards, or one of my Australian accounts. Sounds easy you say - oh no f***king way!!

WooriBank kindly inform me that I need to have been a resident for 5 years in order to transfer money via the internet, KB say sure go ahead, but have their Internet banking for OS transfers all in hangul so I can't even get to it - let alone understand it.

The tellers at my local branch seem overly perplexed whenever I ask for my balance let alone sending money to two/three different OS accounts. So short of dragging Korean friends to have three way discussions into the bank once a month, what are my options here?

I would REALLY prefer to just be able to transfer money via the internet so I can see what's going on, and pay off the mortgage, and maintain credit cards etc. Anyone got some happy experiences that could be helpful?

I'd really appreciate it

Cheers

Foreigners are not allowed to transfer money over the internet. The government needs to control the outflow of currency. Wire the money to your account or give the money to a Korean friend and have him or her transfer it.

No offense, but I haven't found that to be true.

Woori Bank (and possibly others) allow their Internet banking customers to do just that, and in English. Here is some information:

True, it is in English. But have you tried doing it? I tried and it said only a Korean citizen could do it.

You need first to go into the bank and file a certificate designating your bank as a "foreign currency trading bank".

If that works, then I was wrong. I'll have to try it. Thank you.

I hope it works for you. It's a bit of a hassle initially, but it should work. Good luck!
