Wifi is most certainly not disabled in the t*Omnia. I have used it. The Sony Ericsson Xperia also has working wifi.

Samsung is now creating an "app store" to compete with microsoft and apple. Sometimes I think the Korean telecom industry is so lame due to their protectionism. What if America started this blatant protectionist procedures for it's products and did not allow Korean products to compete while ripping their IP.

Why is the iPhone always a day away in Korea?

I think a lot of people are satisfied with having a cell phone and separate Ipod Touch.

The new Touch is suppose to have a camera and Compass also, so you can use 3GS Apps. I think Nearest Tube and the new Augmented Reality Apps are great. Too bad the content won't come anywhere close to the US. In Korea, you'll want to pick a retaurant and only a dozen would come up in a location like Gangnam where there are easily hundreds of places to eat.

I was satisfied until I started hitting too many areas without free wifi. Some coffee shops are great, others aren't. Seoul has wibro, but you can't set that up for a touch. I really like the touch, especially the daum maps with bus info which is handy as can be, but a pain to use if I'm out and need it for directions and can't get a signal.

Anyone ever tried this?

http://iphoneinkorea.com/

I was looking at some stuff the other night and it was saying that Apple and KT reached an agreement. I don't have a phone now but if I get one I want something I can take back home with me.

Wow thanks for that. I absolutely gotta get one of those for my touch. That would be perfect.
I'm rarely out for more than 5 hours in places I'd need it.

LG launched theirs as well, and SK too. All blatant ripoffs of the Apple app store...the only reason iPhone has been stalled and stalled is to give the Koreans the time to copy and then release their copies first.

I'm still a bit confused why they disable wifi in Korean phones. Is that because of the companies want to charge you for using their dataplans?

Exactly. Every time someone touches that little Nate button on their Korean cell phone, the company CEOs get to spend a few more nights at the business rooms and norae clubs. Wi-Fi enabled phones are a threat to them.
