|
|
7.00am this morning I was woken up by one of the most pungent smells. It was hard to describe, but mostly an oniony/rotten cheesy smell, with high notes of chilli. It was so strong my eyes watered and I started sneezing. Who the hell cooks that at 7.00am?? My room still smells of it now. I was getting used to the smell of cigarette smoke and burnt toast every evening but this is going too far.
Anyone have any idea what it might have been? I'm in one of those Korean apt blocks.
If it's noise you can put earplugs in, but smells... |

It is perhaps the ginkgo biloba? However your description meets many descriptions of possible pongs. |

Does gingko really smell like that? I cooked it a bit in rice before but I didn't notice a pungent aroma. |

I often wonder how people like you managed to push your way out of the womb. I can only imagine you were a c-section or the doctor had to go in after you. |

Thread title brought me back to the good old days.
Korean summers just aren't the same without the tear gas. |

Nah, not ammonia, definitely food, really, honestly one of the worst food smells I've ever experienced. I really didn't think that even their shockingly bad food culture could stop to such terrific lows, it really was awful. How people can cook that at 7 in the morning is beyond me.
I really sound like a whiner, but honestly, it really was nothing like I've ever smelt. |

Could be that 천국장 stuff. Not sure about the spelling. That smells like feet, BO, dirty coochie, and garbage all rolled into one. If they dropped a load of chili powder in with it, that could be what you are smelling. Though it smells bad, it is damned tasty. Try having a bowl of it sometime soon and then when you smell it it will make you hungry, not sick. |

Okay, I give up. What was so horrendous about gaffe's post, that everyone cheers crossmr for his OTT put-down? I mean, it certainly wasn't the cleverest one-liner ever written, but is it any worse than the dozens of juvenile yuk-yuks we see every day on Dave's? Am I missing something here? Are kimchi jokes (or fart jokes) now a TOS violation?
