Hi,
I keep hearing good things about Angel Recruiting but they don't seem to be online (their website isn't working). Does anyone know if they still exist? All that I can see from posts on here/ jobs advertised suggest that they haven't for a couple of years.
Thanks. |

Ya Amy Recruiting did a good job for me once. Got me a relatively good hagwon job. Actually in a sense she was a family friend.
If you need contact details PM me and I will dig up what I can.
Mary Kim the owner speak good English and she is an honorable woman. I do not think she will cheat you or push you. |

Avoid Angel recruiting at all costs. They placed me at a hell hole of a school that didn't offer health insurance, didn't pay pension, dinged you if the students didn't show, and completely disregarded the contract I had signed. If they mention placing you at CIA hagwon near Sachang sa-go-ri, run! |

Mary Kim at Angel Recruiting (if she is still in charge) is a good person. She placed a few people I know over the years and in more than one case went out of her way to offer support after placement.
But experiences will differ as will reactions and expectations. This short thread shows this already with peppermint firing with all ordinance on AR and another poster saying they are good.
Up to each reader to decide. |

Thanks for the responses, folks.
You're right, of course, Patrick, but I believe they're based in the city I'd like to work in so I'm hoping they might have something there. It'll be a bit more difficult to screw me over if I'm right on their doorstep. |

How did they pull all that off? Was it in the contract like that? How much was the recruiter's fault/school's fault? |

I signed a reasonably decent contract, with a reasonable tax rate, pension, insurance and a set wage. The school had had a fairly good reputation, and I believe the people who run Angel Recruiting owned it then. They sold it to the woman who had been the head teacher there just before I started there and were still somewhat involved in the day to day operations at the time. The new owners paid me what we agreed upon, but everything else just never materialized.
At first they wanted to place me in Jochiwon, and have me commute to class, but since it was an adult hagwon, and the first class began at 6:30 AM, I put my foot down on that. Instead, I was deposited in a frighteningly moldy, tiny little one room around the corner from the school. I asked about pension, and was told they'd have the documents later. I slipped on some ice, sprained my wrist and needed a couple of stitches, and they took me to some dodgy little clinic (instead of the hospital down the street) and negotiated a cut rate for the X-ray rather than get me insurance.
When I said that I was leaving after 3 months, because my contract had not been honored, and gave them a months's notice- they tried to claw back my last month's pay. I talked my way down to paying a mil to buy my freedom and considered it quite a bargain, because I was so eager to be free of them.
Another teacher I worked with there had slipped on some ice, and broke her heel, leaving her barely able to walk. They fired her because she was unable to stand to teach her classes.
This was a few years ago, and perhaps management has changed for the better. Still, I'd hate for anyone else to have to deal with that. |

Okay, will definitely run from that kind of offer. |

I recently quickly walked past where their office used to be a couple years ago and didn't see their name anywhere.
No loss. They were no better or worse than other recruiters. I had to do my own research and constantly request changes to the contract to get anything close to decent.
If you're looking for a job in Cheongju then best to go there in person to sort things out. |

Thanks for the response. Yes, looking for a job in Cheongju but unable to find many posted online and as I'm in the UK it's difficult to find anything. I'm rapidly coming to the conclusion that I'll need to come out to Korea to find something decent. |

If you haven't had an E2 visa previously, then coming to Korea to find employment gets a little more difficult. Most people must get their first E2 in their home country....although there is supposedly a way around this. |

I know there's a cheongju expat facebook group- maybe you could join that and see if anyone knows of an opening? |
