I am planning on going to Japan next weekend and am going to use one of my sick days on the monday.
When the travel agency takes your alien registration number and everything does that get sent to the school.
I was about to book the ticket and then I started to freak out because I thought they would be alerted.
I don't want them to know I was in Japan obviously.
Anyone know this?
Thanks. |

Travel agents dont require your alien registration number.
PS or hagwon? Public schools are potentially in cahoots with immigration who of course know about your comings & goings. Flu scare & bogus sick days wouldnt play well. |

No travel agent has ever had my alien reg. number. They do, however, require a passport number in order to book an international flight. Offer a 'gift' in exchange for silence (and hope your school hasn't offered more).
I'll refrain from further comments re: morals. |

Jeeze learn to spell.
Overall I think you will be fine. But this is hagwon you are dealing with. Hagwons are never prepared for a sick day. How are you getting the sick day. Are you going to call from Japan. You could go on the trip, but your school will call you, possibly knock on your door, and maybe expect a doctors note. Lets say also the school did not do any of those I would still expect to have your sick day filed for future reference "AS REASONS TO FIRE AT THE ELEVENTH MONTH".
Go on the trip but I would still be a bit prepared for the brown pudding to hit the fan. |

WRONG.
Immi has better things to do than inform the Ministry of Education about the comings and goings of every "English-ee teacher" in Korea.
much less specific schools in question! |

Korean employers are not required to give sick days to their employees. They are reluctant to do so, especially due to the fact that many westerners abuse sick days and use them for vacation days.
Your misuse of a sickday is grounds for immediate dismissal. It is dangerous for your employment to do so. You will have seriously breached your contract and the Labor office will not support you.
Don't do it.
You might get away with it, but are your job, return airfare and severance pay worth risking for a day of vacation? |
