AWESOME!!! I saw those guys on Letterman, but I tuned in too late to get the band name. I remember thinking they were Sea and Cake, kind of a similar sound. Actually, they sound a lot like some of the late 80's/early 90's indie rock like Dinosaur Jr. and Pell Mell

If you like good rock guitar, you can't go wrong with "Tales of Adventure and Immagination" by Michael Schenker.
For years, I couldn't stand Joe Satriani. Technically amazing, sure, but at the same time, just something generic about his playing. Maybe a little too happy sounding. Reminds me of something you'd listen to in the car with the top down on a sunny day or something. Slowly but surely, I started listening to him. "Flying in a Blue Dream" isn't bad.
These days, I'd say check out "Music For Speeding" by Marty Friedman. That CD rocks. Also, if you're looking for a jazz-metal sound, go for "Chasing the Sun" by Chris Poland. Friedman and Poland, coincidentally, are both ex-Megadeth guitarists. |

yeah..i dig instrumental music, particularly post-rock. you can't get much better than EitS - Earth is not a cold dead place though. incredible album.
oh, that GY!BE record mentioned is called Yanqui UXO. F#A# is probably one of their best albums, though. |

Reminds me of a classic by Allan Parsons Project, Tales of Mystery and Imagination, not all instrumental though. |

Beethoven's 5th - does it really need to be justified?!
Fragile State - The facts and the dreams
Christopher O'Riley - True Love Waits (Radiohead covered on piano). I like Radiohead, but regardless of how you feel about them this album is really well done. 'Strung out on radiohead' is also amazing!
Nitin Sawhney - If you don't know anything of him, he is definitely worth checking out. He is ridiculously talented (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FJ9j-ScNAlE) and mixes different types of music so naturally it doesn't feel contrived or forced. My fav instrumental track of his is absolutely 'river pulse - rain mix' off the album 'introducing nitin sawhney'. Try to find the album version (not a live youtube version), to me it sounds like he has created a rain storm in song - you really just have to hear it...gives me shivers! |

I thought I would put up 2 good Korean 'post-rock' bands as we do live here.
Both 우리는 속옷도 생기고 여자도 늘었다네 and Bulssazo are great.
Also try:
Pelican - An amazing rock band. They have more riffs in one song than some bands put in an album.
Cinematic Orchestra - Man With A Movie Camera is a great listen
Mono - a great band that has played in Seoul a few times
World's End Girlfriend - ?
Nine inch Nails' Ghosts I-IV is interesting
Clint Mansell - has done some amazing soundtracks
Sunn O))) - mostly instrumental and all creepy
I hope someone enjoys these. |

Gotta go with this. As an aside, I will admit it is the scariest soundtrack ever made. If you remember it was the theme music from "The Exorcist" Still, I think, the scariest movie ever made. |

Too many to mention, but Boards of Canada - Music has the Right to Children and Aphex Twin - Selected Ambient Work Vols 1 and 2 are a little more ambient and lend themselves to home listening.
I've been caning Drexciya - The Quest and Neptune's Lair lately too. Also check out The Other People's Place - Lifestyles of the Laptop Cafe or somethin like that in a similar but more accessible vein |

If you like those James Stinson related albums, I'd recommend:
ABSTRACT THOUGHT - Hypothetical Situations.
In my opinion, it is one of his best releases and one of the last produced before his untimely death back in 2002. |
