Yes I know that getting into a stranger's car is one of the stupidest things a person can do and there is really no excuse for it. I was lucky that nothing bad happened to me.
I don't even know why I did it ... my judgment was impaired. I'd just had one of the worst nights of my life and I felt so low I didn't really care about anything.

Some of the best people I've known have been odd-ball magnets. Being an odd-ball myself, I appreciated their depth of character.

But not all odd-balls are the good kind. There is evil in the world. Keeping yourself safe doesn't necessarily mean refusing to socialize with people who trod not the beaten path.

But definitely do not get into any confined space with a stranger, no matter how normal they seem. If you can, when you go out, have a "wing-lady," or wing-man, so you can keep each other out of trouble.

Traveling alone at night in the city is trouble waiting to happen. Your gender exacerbates this. There is no place on earth where it is a good idea to be a lone woman on the street at night.

Stay safe. Embrace the weird Laughing

Wow.
You got into that car? Would you have gotten into the car in a similar situation in Nfld? I am hoping no. Then why would you get into the car in a foreign country where you don't know the social practices. Stamp a four leaf clover on your ass, you are the luckiest girl alive.

Generally speaking, it is polite to be introduced to new friends by people in your social group. Being a foreigner, you can probably get away with introducing yourself to Koreans in foreign establishments if your friends are present. But if someone (esp. a man)is accosting you when you are by yourself at night they are not treating you with respect and you are in a potentially dangerous situation.

The police don't always understand the cultural differences that would make western women a) trust men so easily b) not want to have sex with a strange guy they are alone with. I've heard of women inviting their male friends over for coffee and being raped, and having the police dismiss the case because she invited him in alone. Her Korean friends sided with the guy and shunned her afterwards. Everyone assumed the coffee invite was sexual consent.

If people are accosting you like this, that sucks and it is scary. You're not doing anything wrong morally, but you might want to think about doing something to protect yourself. Join a martial arts class, buy some pepper spray, exude some physical confidence and a guy who has unwholsome intentions will usually avoid you.

Thank you for the advice ... I was really not thinking clearly and in future I am going to be smarter and take better care of myself.

... and change your lifestyle a little so you don't get into bad situations.
It's been years since I've been in a bar into the night. Not missing anything either.
