|

I brought a lot of DVDs from home, and I'm sick of using my laptop for them. (It hooks up to my TV, but still, sometimes I'd like to multi-task - throw a DVD on and use my computer at the same time.)
How much should I expect to pay for a multi-region DVD player in Korea, and where could I both find one and actually buy the right one with my extremely limited language skills? |

| I meant a location - can I get one anywhere in yongsan? I don't want to order it online... but I don't want to accidentally buy a DVD player that won't play my DVDs... |

| My friend got his at Costco for W49,000. Yongsab has tons as does GMarket. Additionally, just about any DVD player has a hack to make it region-free. Just Google the unit and Robert's your father's brother! |

Hi all - I have the same issue. Are all of the DVD players on G-Market multi-region?
Also so far I have an odd experience on this. I have not moved all my belongings yet (I am on temporary accomodation). But I took with me a Pana BDP35 Blu-Ray (region B) / DVD multi-region. It is connected to the LG TV of the hotel - the Blu Ray playback works (although it is not region A) - the DVD playback does not (only sound). I use an HDMI cable - so this is even more odd. In addition, the DVD player (It is LG - but cannot see LG/ref) provided by the hotel does on the other end play my Region 2 DVDs... |

You can find a region reset code for most DVD players. You reset the code via the remote.
I did this for all my DVD players I've ever owned. Albeit, they were all back in the States. Not sure about the ones here, but I don't see why they'd be different.
Edit: Whoops. I usually found the codes off of Google. |

Bought a new multi region DVD player in Costco on Sunday for 59000.Chinese brand (TKDS).HDMI cable supplied.I need it to play Region 2 PAL DVDs.
Be careful as to what you buy as the player must be capable of converting the PAL disc signals to match the NTSC TVs used in Korea.I made this mistake with the first player I bought from Yongsan (a JVC). Assured it was multi region but only plays discs compatible with NTSC TVs. I think many more players are fitted with the necessary converters these days especially Chinese brands.
Only problem I have now is that since I bought a Sony Bravia HDTV Region 2 discs play but are very slightly slow resulting in a weird effect of being "jumpy".Anybody have any ideas what causes this?Tried adjusting the TV but no joy.Funny thing is, when I use the P in P function on the TV it plays perfectly.
GRRR!Driving me crazy! Sorry for hijacking thread with my problem but any suggestions? |

| This is a good point Che on the PAL to NTSC conversion, which is probably not an issue for Blu-Ray, and would also explain why I get sound and not picture! I will check settings in the hotel. But for sure the LG DVD player they have plays on the LG TV Region 1/2 DVDs with no lag effect. Thansk for tip on player ref |

Yep, I got one of those above from G market. It said multi region but didn't work for region 2.
I could hear sound but got a rolling picture. Think it's that Pal conversion thing.
So I give up! That's 2 I've bought now here. |

Alot of dvd players can flick between pal and NTSC. If it can't and your tv can handle component or hdmi use them, The pal/ntsc thing is only an issue for low def stuff |

|

Hi all and thanks for the help last year + happy new year
So this is what happened:
- Bought local TV - plugged in multi region Blu Ray DVD player bought in UK. Played back + visbile on TV Region 1 and 3 and Blu Ray - NOT region 2 DVDs. Odd - all connected through HDMI etc BUT could be Region 2 set up as PAL and this is NTSC (not an issue for Region 1).
- store gave me Blu Ray player for free (so Korean one) - bizarrely it plays back Blu Ray DVDs from Europe but not (of course) region 1/2 DVDs
- Solution: Yongsan Electronics Market - main building (above train station through stairs - 1st floor). Several stands sell Won80,000-190,000 multi region DVD players. Main diff in price is (1) some do not have HDMI plugs (careful: some of new TVs ONLY have HDMI connections) and; (2) China vs. other brands. I tried 2 of them which work perfectly and played back Region 2 DVDs I brought with me.
CONCLUSION: Blu-Ray playback seems oddly not an issue. Region 1 fine with multi region player bought abroad. Region 2 an issue and only solution I found is to buy locally a multi-region DVD player. But it works! |
