Ok, so this has happened to me since day one. I'ms itting in my chair, tucked in as close as I can get to my desk, and a korean walks by right into my chair, jarring me. Or, the teacher next to my desk gets up and happens to hit her arm on my chair.

Does that happen to anyone else? At first I thought it was just they were being rude, then they didn't like me, but it's happened so much that I realize that I'm not sure it even registers...

Sort of related:

A couple of days ago I was waiting for a bus near my house. It was sunny so I decided to get some shade between a tree and a building. There was maybe 6 feet between the tree and the bldg and you had to walk up a slight incline to get there. This was in one of the busier parts of Seoul, so the sidewalks are huge. I saw this ajumma and I knew right away what would happen. She actually walked right towards me, and I moved out of her way and she still glanced me when she (very, very unnecessarily) walked between the tree and the bldg. I thought for a second there was an entrance near that space, but no. She proceded to then go back to the sidewalk and continue to walk down the street.

I used to believe Koreans bumped into people because they didn't even notice them. Now I believe they do it precisely because they do notice them. You have to laugh at the absurdity of it here sometimes.

Sooner or later, I'm going to get a young, good-looking one pregnant. Wink

Family members and friends bump into eachother all the time. You have to physically move them sometimes. For the most part its probably unintentional, but its not hard to imagine some people doing it because they're being douches.

One time this dude was running down the stairs and was heading right towards me. We were about 7-8 meters away when I first noticed him. Because there was a lot of room and I was walking right next to the railing, I thought he would swerve away from me. Nope. I look up just as he smashes right into me. His shoulder wacked my glasses off my face.

There was a reason I see ajummas who walk with their elbows flared out.

Just wanted to chime in here and say yes, they do it on purpose. Don't ask me why.

I jog for a couple miles five times a week on this nice and wide sidewalk where I may see up to 5 other people using it too. If there is one person walking from the opposite direction, we usually step off to the opposite sides of the sidewalk, but not everyone is considerate, so it turns into a game of chicken, and I usually win due to my size and how fast my body is moving. However, there are times when there are two folks walking from the opposite direction, and sometimes they wont move, because either they are just oblivious to me approaching or that they figure that their back is strong and that I am required to go around them. However, I dont play their game and I head directly for them in which they move quickly out of my way at the last second. Very Happy
