Hello

I am new to teaching in South Korea and was wondering if someone could help me out with the national holidays. I have a list of some of the hols but would also like to know how many days (if any!) you have off work for them?

If a holiday falls on your regular day off, you do not get another day off in liew. This fact particulary 'sucks' this year and next as most national holidays fall on Saturdays and Sundays.

January 1st- Solar New Year
January 25th- Lunar New Year
January 26th- Lunar New Year
January 27th- Lunar New Year
March 1st- Independence Movement Day
May 2nd- Buddha's Birthday
May 5th- Children's Day
June 6th- Memorial Day
August 15th- Liberation Day
October 2nd- Chuseok
October 3rd- Chuseok
October 3rd- Chuseok
October 3rd- National Foundation Day
December 25th- Christmas Day

2010
January 1st- Solar New Year
February 13th- Lunar New Year
February 14th- Lunar New Year
February 15th- Lunar New Year
March 1st- Independence Movement Day
May 5th- Children's Day
May 21st- Buddha's Birthday
June 6th- Memorial Day
August 15th- Liberation Day
September 21st- Chuseok
September 22nd- Chuseok

Whether you'lll get any additional days off or not depends on your school. At the public school I was at last year, they always gave us extra days off if the holiday fell on a weekend. It's HIGHLY unlikely a hagwon would do this though, so if you're at one you're likely out of luck

Shocked I'm in my fifth year (public positions) in K-land, and you're the first person I've heard of getting another day off if a national holiday fell on a weekend!
