|
|
Hi all.... I havent seen my parents for 3 years and we have paid for hotels and flights to Singapore for Chu-seok, this was done months ago.
I have been working a university here for 6 years and I dont want to lose my job, but I really dont want to let my parents down at this late stage.
* If I leave the country without telling anyone do you think there is anyway my school could find out I've been out of the country by the authorities ? *
It might sound like a paranoid question, but 1 of my colleagues seems to think so and I need to research more before deciding to cancel my reunion. |

As long as you are back to work when you need to be, it shouldn't matter.
It's your time, enjoy it and go where you want. |

I don't think it's a problem.
I mean, you are your own man, it's not like they can confine you.
There is nothing in your contract that says you can't travel freely right?
And your visa permits you to go there?
I think it should be fine, just assume it is, go, and if they say anything just say you thought it was ok. Should be fine. |

I'm surprised someone w/6 yrs. in would ask such a question.
If no classes, of course you can go! Just make sure you have a valid re-entry permit.... |

its worth knowing that some people are required to do a quarantine period on return (though its discesional). i didnt have to, but 2 of my friends did.
so keep it quiet, there shouldnt be a problem. |

| Have you been explicitly told you are not allowed to leave over Chuseok? Sometimes its better to ask for forgiveness than permission. |

Awwwww but DADDDDDDYYYYY!!!!
OP - Long as there's nothing in your contract that says you can't, why would you let them stop you?

| I used to go out of Korea at least once a semester when i worked at a uni - I didn't miss classes, didn't tell anyone I was going away and I never had any problems. Don't worry about it! I agree with the 'asking for forgiveness not permission' suggestion. |

| It sounds like you need permission from your uni to leave the country. GEPIK is like that. If that is true, why don't you ask for permission to do so? They can't really stop you but, as you implied, if they find out, they might hold it against you. I also suggest that you ignore the jail house advice and go straight to the source. |

Never ask for forgiveness or permission.
It will be held against you eventually at some later date. |

Who are those people and by whom is their quarantine required? I work for the Busan public schools and I spent the last week of the summer vacation in Hong Kong. I met two other Busan public school teachers there. Those two are Koreans and are elementary school teachers. All three of us returned to work the following Monday. |

It just depends on the employer. I spent August in Canada/Alaska and due to degi flu hysteria, had an 'extra week' of (paid) 'holidays' when I came back. |

| Pretty much the same for me. Vacation in Canada and my uni "forced" me to spend a week at home. |
