Hey guys.

I am looking into SMOE... and I have an interview for a job that starts next month.

What are the requirements for F2 visa holders. She is saying I need criminal check apostilled, degree copy apostilled, transcript, and reference letter.

The transcript and reference letter should be easy enough.

But I haven't been in Canada since June 2008. And my LATEST criminal check is from Sept 08... So I haven't left the country of Korea.

She says the check needs to be within 6 months... This true?

Do I need one from Canada? Or can I get one from the korean government?

The apostilled degree... does a lawyer do that? of the canadian gov?

I figured it would makes sense to be a little more lieniant for F2 holders, as I live here basically permanently now.

thanks in advance.

Who's saying they want it-the recruiter? Does she know the difference between E2 and F2?

You don't need any checks as you already have your visa, though the school may ask for it. It's not a legal requirement though.

the only way I can see it being a requirement.. is because it's a public school

She may just think it's the same for F2 as for E2, which it ain't.

As you haven't been out of the country I'd get a Korean National Police check done and tell her that's sufficient. Takes 30 minutes and 3 or 4.000. Go the local gu police HQ.

I had these same questions when I got my job with GEPIK. I have an F2 visa and thought that the criminal check and what not were only for E2 visa holders.
What my school told me was that the requirements are for the government, not the school. Each school (or district) can require certain documents for their own requirements (such as a criminal background check from back home with a vulnerable sector search) and multiple letters of recommendation.
My school required all of the same documents as for any other teacher with an E-2 visa plus a few more, the only difference being that there wasn't the same time crunch.

My PS principal (not recruiter or ASP owner) required one, but from Korea. I just filled out the report and it was sent to his office. Never heard about it again. BTW, I'm on an F-2. Also required a medical check.
