Sure, the way we are all born with soccer balls attached. No wait, I guess we had to invent those like helmets and padding. I guess that makes your point incredibly silly. Sucks to be you.

You seem to be under the impression that the preferences of every person on the planet should be thought of as important.

I'll let you in on a little secret. Some people get it. Others don't. The fact their are people who don't like football isn't a commentary on how good a game it is. It is a commentary on their ability to appreciate such a complex and complicated sport.

It is easy to understand why so many prefer soccer. It is a simple, easy to understand game. Perfect for the masses.

I'd argue economics. Just like running, doesn't require relatively expensive equipment.

I love american football and soccer but sorry, American football is not complicated at all.

The schemes and strategies are complex but the same can be said for soccer. At the end of the day you don't need to know what a zone blitz is to enjoy american football as you don't need to understand what a libero is to enjoy soccer.

Here is a good piece on why soccer is the beautiful game and also why it is so hard to understand for the outsider.

http://www.runofplay.com/2008/09/01/the-beautiful-game-part-two/

A post in the comments summed up the difference for me between soccer and american football.

Quote:
the rules of American football or baseball or basketball are much more numerous and more complex than those of football. But the actions that a given player can take at any given time are far fewer. In football, a player especially the player with the ball can at any moment do almost anything. Think about one of my favorite players, Cesc Fabregas, with the ball at his feet thirty meters from the opponent's goal; think about how many options present themselves to him, and how the geometry of those options is constantly altering as players move about the pitch. This is why Cruyff was called "Pythagoras in boots," right? because of his mastery of this ever-changing geometry. One ball, almost no equipment, few rules, a pitch with few marks on it and yet at almost every moment a dizzying range of possibility.

lol - American rugby: the sport of choice for the global elite...

I can't even start to compare the beautiful game with a sport in which each team actually has 2 different teams (defensive and offensive), each 'play' usually only consists of one pass (followed by a gatorade break), and it takes 4 hours to play a one-hour match.

btw 'their' is a possessive pronoun; 'there' is a pronoun. I know it's a little complicated, but you understand American rugby so I'm surprised that this is tricky for you...
