Hello, I am going to spend the night in Manila airport and then fly to Boracay early in the next morning.
Any rexperience to share for a comfortable night in (Manila) airport? Any ideas would be appreciated.

I spent the night in Manila airport but was careful as a LOT of natives sleep there to catch a morning flight. I got a couple of hours of sleep but stayed awake most of the time because I had a very early flight (I think it was like 6:30 a.m. or something).
If your flight to Kalibo is in the afternoon, then get a hotel in Manila. www.directrooms.com has deals. |

definitely be careful in Manila. If you don't check your bags all the way through to Boracay then you'll probably want to find some place to store them (lockers) and I would only keep maybe a book and a watch or cell phone with an alarm on me. I didn't have any trouble in Manila, but it is pretty scary when people follow you around at night and people are always begging for money with 5 other people standing around |

| I have spent the night at the PAL terminal outside and it was pretty safe. Lot of security around and they dont let beggers in. I recommend not leaving your things unattended for a second though. If you arrive at midnight and leave early in the morning, probably just better staying at terminal than roaming around Manila finding a hotel room. |

| I'm off to Boracay for Chuseok, and just saw a KBS News report saying business is down there because of last month's hostage fiasco in Manila. That means more deals (and fewer Koreans) for me and my buddies. |

Have fun but be prepared to spend quite a bit of money. I went with a friend, albeit during the high season, and had to abandon my budget altogether. Our accomodations were okay, but food took up a big portion of our cash since the Filipino restaurants weren't very good, and prices at the Western restaurants were comparable to what they'd be in Canada. |

Our daughter loves the beach at Boracay.
It may be oriented toward the younger crowd (with bars and discos) but there is still enough sand time for the little ones and most hotels can arrange a "sitter" (off duty staff for a small extra fee paid to her) if you want to go out for an evening. p200 at the department store (2nd or 3rd floor - main road behind D'Mall) will get you a bag of plastic pails, shovels and stuff for making sand castles.
It is a nice place for some down time as a family, great place for diving, not so good for swimming in the summer (winds tend to be on-shore and blow crap onto the beach; but they are off-shore in the winter and the swimming is good then.

I haven't been there since November 2008 but I figure prices have gone up, though I'm not sure they've gone up that much. At any rate, the sunsets on Boracay (and I assume sunrises) are just so incredible to be worth going there alone. |
