I live in Hanam-si and have had an awful time trying to find a place that sells airline approved animal kennels. We need a medium-sized crate for our cat and have been to Dr. Choi's, but he is sold out and we leave on the 21st of this month.

Any help would be great -- I'd love to stay closer to Hanam than further away...so Jamsil/Gangdong/Cheonho, maybe even Gangnam or thereabouts.

Thanks in advance!

Have you tried Dr. Pet in Gangnam (www.dr-pet.co.kr)? They seem to have a lot of (airline approved) crates... Maybe you can give them a call first.

Or otherwise try finding something online.

Also Chungwa Animal Clinic in Itaewon.

I got mine there and they have a good range of sizes. I paid 75,000 for a small (pass medium) one.

mimis- Dr. Pet is where Dr. Choi works! I'm hoping they get another order in soon! Smile

SSA - If Dr. Pet falls through I'll probably try here. Where exactly is the hospital in relation to the subway station?

Bramble - How did you have it ordered? Did it take long for shipping? Cost?

Oh, haha, sorry - I'm always confusing Dr. Choi with the one in Itaewon (Dr. Kwon?)... So, ehh, have you tried that one? Wink

The kennel was 60,000, shipping was 5,000, and I think it only took a day or so once the order was placed ... but they may have had to wait until a certain day before ordering it, and it may be more expensive to send it out to Hanam-si. (I doubt it would be much more, though.)

Okay! This sounds great!

Sorry to ask so many questions, but did you order it online or over the phone? And did you just transfer money from your bank account to theirs? Should I speak to anyone in particular?

You all are a great help. I'm super nervous about bringing a pet with me on an airplane. I worry they'll deny me so I want everything to be perfect!

And Mimi's, no, I haven't tried that one! Smile Where is it located?

I couldn't find a website, but here's a thread from the ARK website: http://www.animalrescuekorea.org/forums/showthread.php?t=334&highlight=kwon

Good luck and I'm sure everything will go well, just be prepared :)

Go to gmarket and subsearch the pet house/carriers sections with ATC
and there you will find airline approved carriers. I believe the brand is IRIS/IBIS???

Anyways I have one. Mine is for a jindo so its a bigger atc-870 model but its perfect for flying. I can't read Korean so when I was first looking into it I checked on AMAZON and searched atc-870 and got all the info there in English and then ordered it off gmarket. It came within 2 days and was exactly like the model I saw on AMAZON. Its specifically for flying with pets.

Hope this helps.

Hi. The kennel I got in Chungwha is sold exactly the same on Gmarket. However you must be certain of the measurements before you buy from there or through Chungwha (for delivery) because airlines are picky on the amount of space the animal must have to turn around etc. There must be 5cm clear at the top of the head when standing and some other requirements. I took my dog into the clinic in Itaewon and tried out 3 different ones. It is important not to have it massively big either as its is charged by the airline as volume weight so you will pay more $$ when you didnt need to.

On Gmarket.: Just type in the search box "ATC" and about 10 pics down the list you will see cream and blue and cream and orange crates. Thats the one I have exactly. It is cheaper on Gmarket actually. I paid 75,000 for the ATC-530 there is also 670 which is bigger. My dog is a miniature daschund. he has a long body but is short. The 530 is a good fit for him. It comes with a drinking dish and a sticker that says Live animal. However the drinking dish is useless my dog knocked it off the door in about 3 seconds and it takes up space on the inside as well. For air travel the crate must have a water bottle which are around 10,000.

Directions to Chungwha:
go out of Itaewon subway (I dont know the exit number I think 3 at Coldstone Ice cream store) stand with your back to the hamilton Hotel and walk down the street that goes off the main road directly opposite Hamilton Hotel. Its about 10 mins walking down that road, it will bear left, keep going and then the clinic is on the left hand side.

But I would definatley advise a 'fitting' Chungwha if you are unsure of the size you will need. They have other models as well that arent on Gmarket.

Thank you all SO much! I'm going to try one more place near my apartment and then if that doesn't work try one of the (many) options you've give me. You are all so great!
