Korean teachers work every other Saturday at public schools. We do not.
Have you ever been to your public school on a Saturday? If so, what reason did you go for? Is there anyone out there that actually works at their public school on a Saturday for whatever reason? |

Every second Saturday is a normal school day (half day), and normal school things happen. I know one guy who turned up on his first Saturday. He was promptly told to go home, and that was that.

I've been to my public school on a Saturday. I came in to get my laptop and a textbook. I got called in to school on a Saturday during my first year. It was because the principal wanted to talk to me. He wouldn't say why to me or my sponsor, but when I got to school he presented me with a couple of nice ceramic coffee mugs from a local university. I've never worked on Saturdays, although my school asked me to teach the administration office secretaries on that day. I, however, declined with apologies. |

I "worked" Saturdays at one of my public schools in the past. It was a
9-12 shift for 80,000 won, I liked it. I watched movies with the students, played games and we made cookies. Saturday classes were more like English camp days than regular school days. It is not a real acadamic day. |

Nothing actually happens on Saturdays. It's a "sports and activities" morning. The KTs give out equipment then peruse the take out menus.
They're not overly happy about it which is why they expect you to be in the same boat (same goes with proctoring tests) |

I work everyday of the week without extra pay at a Public School. My Co-workers are worried I'm gonna burn out soon.
Still trying to figure out a way to bring the level down to what the kids can do.

I am tossing up between 'intervention' and 'exorcism'. However, things will never be the same after you're done with that zoo. |

It's a half-day at my school. I came in on the Saturday prior to my first day of teaching to get my desk and computer organized. Nothing exciting happened. |

There are no classes for Western PS teachers on saturdays. It's an urban myth. Read your contract.
Please don't start teaching (or coming to school) on saturdays. That will eventually change all our contracts.
Some clowns are already being suckered into doing ear-temperature tests at the school gate. What next, will we be asked to clean the toilets???? |

Contracts have said no Saturdays because not enogh foreigners would sign them otherwise. With the employment market changing, this could also change. SMOE could probably fill up their positions now even if they threw in Saturdays. And why not? If you don't like it you can teach somewhere else. |

Before you decide that working on Saturdays is fun, you might wish to remember that it's only two Saturdays a month (2nd and 4th) that are not school half-days. Sometimes that Saturday is designated as "Club Activities Day" but it is a regular school schedule for the first half of the day.
The next time you're in a classroom, look at the schedule. You'll see four subjects scheduled for that day. That, of course, leads to the question: How do they deal with the Saturday classes for weeks with no Saturday school? The answer is that they're rotated during the regular weeks. The schedules will have "Saturday" on Monday's 6th period and Wednesday's 5th and 6th period (as an example). During the weekly staff meeting, the particular classes for those periods that week will be announced. |

I use to teach two Saturdays a month at my public school. I would have two classes and most of the time I showed them movies.
Most of the time kids from other classes would come into my class room to watch a movie with us on Satuday morning. |
