If it doesn't matter whether or not they speak English then there is likely a person at your gym that will do it. Of the three gyms I have been to, there has been a person that works at the gym that will train a member for free. I have also been told that this kind of service is expected for free in Korea.
Or are you looking for someone to really whip you into shape for hours on end in the gym and also to help you with your nutrition? If its the latter, I'd just ask the owner or manager at your gym as they'd probably know someone. |

I don't know what your specific goals are but seeing as your a guy then odds are that you want to bulk up/gain muscle and fill out your clothes better. Search 'Scooby1961' on youtube. He's a bit goofy but gives sound advice... |

I have an old stick, it doesn�t talk much but I guarantee you it will do everything a personal trainer does for you.
Then again if you have no willpower and need someone else to force you to do what you already know you need to do then you should seek out a mammal.

Seriously this has to be a joke. I know cattle that have more motivation than you. Your description may as well be the same thing as a cow that needs to be forced into the gate.
Looking for a guide to get me into the slaughter truck, needs not know language or directions, I simply require an electric device to prompt me into movement.

Good lord, you really have no conception as to what personal trainers do, do you? They're not there to force you into doing anything, they ensure that your work out is effective and efficient....you normally only meet once a week and work out on your own at other times. A good personal trainer can help you to achieve your goals far quicker than the average joe will do so on their own. |

To the OP: What are your goals? what do you want to accomplish?
If you want to learn about strength training and the five basic lifts (Squat, deadlift, bench press, over head press, and power clean) I recommend Mark Rippetoe's Starting Strength Program
Rippetoe give's one of the most detailed break downs of those lifts (including over 70 pages alone on the squat)
The program can be used by anyone, of any age/sex to build the foundation of a strong body
There is an ebook and dvd if you search for them on the net
Only requirements is finding a gym with a squat rack (NOT a smith machine as they can damage the body instead of actually being safer) sometimes this can be quite difficult in Korea
Finding an appropriate strength coach that can teach you the proper form behind these lifts in real life is a much more difficult task not only in America, but espiecally in Korea |

A personal trainer is a complete waste. These people make a living off of other's laziness/ignorance. It's not a real job. |

I was a certified personal trainer and strength/conditioning coach so I can say first hand that they are becoming the new snake oil salesman. The best personal trainer is a cheerleader, cause motivation is what repeat sessions are about. Aside from that, a good trainer should be able to sit you down, make up a customed program for you in a couple sessions and see you again at a progress check up. Instead, they sell people packages of 10-55-20 sessions. Snake oil salesman. |

If someone have no idea about how to do exercises correctly I can understand how they would want a personal trainer for 2-3 sessions. I've never had one myself, but I don't think they are completely useless if they know what they are doing and the PT is used correctly. When the personal trainer has no real education in his field and is basically just a paid gym-partner, then I agree that it's a very expensive "friendship". |

I would again say read Mark Rippetoe's starting strength and watch his dvd
if you want further instruction try to find a strength coach that can show you how to :
Squat (low bar)
bench press
deadlift
overhead press
power clean
you can throw in a couple of assistance exercises if you wish like pull/chin ups, dips etc but those are not necessary
Ask if the coach knows how to do those five exercises. If he/she is not familiar than I would not recommend you receive instruction as it could lead to serious injury.
forget machines, they are a waste of time and can potentially be dangerous (putting the body in a fixed range of motion and creating imbalances in the body which can have negative consequences in the long run) |

I highly second this, I am by no means an expert, but I think for whatever your goal is, a certain amount of strength is necessary, starting strength or any other similar 5x5 programs will be of huge benefit. Write a log, follow an easy push-pull-squat program, techniques can be learned off youtube or you can ask the trainers at whatever gym you are going to. Even if they cant speak English all the main exercise names are in English:)
And yea, squat rack is a must, if your gym allows chalk even better!
And regarding scoobydoo, the youtube trainer, his workouts are a joke (and he himself is also WIDELY regarded as one on most, if not all weightlifting sites). Most of the exercises he promotes can all be substituted with far more efficient exercises. Also, all these "bodybuilder" exercises wont really be all that effective until you achieve a certain amount of strength (heavy weights), good technique and last but not least proper nutrition. |
