So, this whole thread is just about some VP worried that you might not come back?

How did he ever get through life without you?

Well, now it's also about you being sarcastic for no apparent reason.

Please see:

My VP mostly doesn't give a crap about English and just wants to deal with it as little as possible, so it's more convenient for him to just give me what I want here than to have to go through the trouble of finding another foreign teacher anyway.

I am guessing they just want to save a couple bucks on the flight vs payoff. If they were really that worried they wouldnt have re-signed as they lose nothing if you go home. Same cost as just ending the contract.
Honestly they could save money as if you just stay home they dont have to pay the one month severance pay.

Odd story.

and try again.

God forbid anyone write anything positive about their job/school on Dave's.

I like my school and have written positive things about it on a number of occasions. I was simply being factual as I couldnt see any reason for them to panic about you leaving after you re-sign.

Facts are if they could get you to re-sign and then you decide to end it is better for them. Sure there is a recruiter fee but lets be honest thats not going to be a full months salary in most cases. I really doubt any school would have trouble finding a new bag o taters to fill the seat. No matter how skilled we are in the classroom we are just a cog in the wheel and although humbling we are easily swapped out for a new part.

If they are trying to get you to take cash over a ticket then I simply look at the logical route, it is cheaper for them. Cheap and evil are two different things.

Who knows maybe theres a budget shortfall, some kids at another school dropping out (hagwon, not you), a personal snafu, or a myriad of other reasons a good school would try to save the won or two. Any reason would be completely unknown as I am just a reader of what is given.

I'm snarky but you seem panicked about nothing. If the relationship is that wonderful at the school then what is Dave's worthy about this situation? Then again once you finish I can see passing on a situational awareness post, but not a OMG what do I do?

Just confused, and its a sarcastible situation.

Just my thoughts on this one.

a. I don't work at a hagwon -- I work at a PS, where the money (I don't think?) isn't an issue, as it comes from the MOE. At any rate, budget is definitely not an issue.

b. I wasn't referring to you, but to knee-highs.

c. It was situational -- where did you get the idea I was panicked? My vacation was never actually under any threat. I just thought it was bizarre that my VP would take it upon himself to try to pay off my home leave, and that for some reason, he thought I would accept money over visiting my family.

My comment about people posting positive things is directed toward the trend on this site where anytime anyone says anything good about their job, it seems someone else shows up to make a comment about how the OP is bragging in some sense. In this situation, it should have been relatively clear that this wasn't the case, as the portion I quoted above makes it obvious that my VP just doesn't want to deal with the hassle/paperwork of finding a new FT, especially after they've already broken this one in and gotten her to a decent operating level.

If you find it a "sarcastible situtation", that's fine, I guess. I personally find it to be only a mildly odd one. I guess we all have different standards for what's funny, and what's "worthy" of a post on an internet forum. I'll try to think long and hard about the import of what I have to say before I make my next post.

Maybe I jumped headfirst into the shallow end of the pool in this one, but it stood out to me. Then Knees dropped the sarcasm and I laughed and dove in full speed.

I am neither right or wrong, just here. It seemed an odd thing to worry about and I assumed that it was another plea for information about the obvious.
See famous quote about assume.

I commented and dont change a thing, yet as in all things though a better understanding comes in clarification. Thats probably why we talk in the first place.

Maybe it is a sign of good things to come. My director offered me a position early in the morning for a good sum of money and I said that it was too early it would affect my personal life and more importantly my job so I turned it down. Now theres a new class with better pay and sexier hours.

Hope it all works out, but I think it is all worry for nothing..
Just go home, then come back!

[EDIT]: Clarification only
A: As you quoted me I said (hagwon, not you)
B: I assumed the terror of the deep from the gave up my vacation already type line.
C: Please dont get rumbled about this but you did directly quote me so I assumed it had something to do with me.
Again see famous quote about assuming. Hence half my fault on that one.

Yeah. I directly quoted me too. Right before I directly quoted you. I certainly wasn't addressing myself.
