Hey,
I was just wondering if there was a list of recruiters to use (and to stay away from) or is it better to not use a recruiter when trying to find a job in Korea.
Thanks,

Totally depends on what kind of job you're looking for and how experienced you are. If it's your first time teaching, I would definitely recommend a recruiter. In fact, I'd say work with multiple recruiters, and then go with the one that is offering the best contract. Remember to keep in mind that a recruiter is just an introduction to your employer - don't be afraid to ask for extra time or different options. If they don't have what you want, ask someone else.
That said, Claire at ESLstarter (eslstarter.com) was hugely helpful in helping me find a public school job. She responded to my emails right away, worked with what I wanted, and helped set up my hotel and transportation after I got to Korea. I'd recommend her - their website also has job listings so it's worth a look either way. |

If you do a search, there are a ton of threads about this. That's what I did and I came up with 3 in particular that were especially good.
First, Grace at L2excel ([email protected]) found me exactly the job I was looking for at an excellent school.
Second, Juno at Korvia ([email protected]) was great and very kind. Unfortunately, she was not able to find me a job where I wanted before I received the offer from Grace.
Finally, Melissa at Asknow.ca ([email protected]) seemed like she would have been great. She gave me all kinds of information and spent a lot of time on the phone with me answering my questions. I've heard all kinds of great things about this company, but I received the offer from Grace before I heard anything back from Melissa.
You'll probably hear this over and over, but do some research, the answer is out there on this board. That being said, these are the three I would recommend. Good luck! |

Korvia, ESL-Planet and Korea Connections are very good and more reliable than others for PS jobs. |

I came over with global campus teaching. They are very good with answering questions. Also they organize outings for their teachers. Which is awesome I think for newbies. You get to meet other teachers and explore Korea. |

Has anyone ever heard of TOK Recruitment in Busan? They post on job boards but do not have a website and only one member of staff by the looks of things. Should I work for these or not? I don't know if they are a genuine recruiter. |

Unless you're planning on going next year, I wouldn't bother contacting AskNow. They don't seem to have anything and don't seem to be processing applications in the next few months (according to the email they sent out to me about 2 weeks ago. |

I've only had a really brief experience with a recruiter, John Han from WorkESL. He took my phone calls even when he was on a subway/bus and was prompt about getting back to me with stuff.
But then, I'm Korean so I really don't require a lot of help with housing, transportation, mediation.. that kind of stuff. I wouldn't know how he is with those. |

Could anyone give me more specifics on why you liked or disliked your experiences with these two recruiters? I have recently applied with both of them. I don't have enough posts to PM, so you can write to me at <[email protected]> if you'd like. Thanks. |

THIS IS THE PAT RESPONSE ALWAYS PRINTED IN BOLD FONT:
ALWAYS USE ALL RECRUITERS. ALWAYS PLASTER YOUR CV ON ANY JOB BOARD YOU CAN FIND. CREATE A SEPARATE E-MAIL ACCOUNT TO HANDLE ANY POTENTIAL INCOMING GARBAGE.
BASE YOUR DECISION ON THE QUALITY OF THE POSITION OFFERED AND HOW WELL THE TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT MATCH UP TO YOUR EXPECTATIONS. NEVER EVER PAY A RECRUITER.
AGAIN: USE ALL RECRUITERS. IF ONE TRIES TO PRESSURE YOU INTO TAKING A JOB THAT YOU'RE NOT INTERESTED IN, DROP THAT ONE AND MOVE ON. |

Korvia was awesome to us. Our contact's English wasn't always 100% awesome, but they were very timely in their replies and really took the burden on themselves. 100% pleased. |

EnglishWork is fabulous. They replied fast and provided detailed information about the positions. Kelly was my recruiter. |
