Is it typically easy to re-sign a new contract at a public school?

Only 6 months in but am already starting to think about the next contract.

When is the appropriate time to discuss the possibility of re-signing?

It's really easy if they want to keep you for another year, not so easy if they don't.

Public school's will usually ask you of your intentions in december or sometime before classes end and everyone starts vacation. If youre worried about it, you can always broach the subject with them.

If your only six months in, I would wait another three months before I would worry about it.

I guess the next question is: Do schools usually want to keep you if you have been a quality employee? Or are they interested in always having a new person coming in?

Thanks. 3 months from now sounds about right.

I just don't want to be unemployed at any point in the next couple years so if they aren't willing to keep me on then I would use those months to look for another position.

1 year contracts kinda suck :/

Last question:

Is it ever possible to sign the contract well before the current one expires?

For example, could I sign 3 months early so that I knew I would have a job?

Yes, that's what I did, I signed my new contract in July, but my current one does not end until October.
Have your co-teachers asked or even hinted at you staying? Have they asked what you will be doing next year? If you miss home?
You can usually read into these questions to see if you will be asked to renew a contract.

standard practise if for them to ask you 2 months before the first contract expires. But everywhere is different. if they love you then they might be willing to lock you in early.
You must be really worried about job prospects by the way. Not only do you seem super keen, but a 1 year contrcat is not enough?

If you think there is an risk of not being renewed contact someone in the
Kyo- Yukcheong Board of Education. Sometimes they'll transfer you. If you don't work out in a big city school sometimes they'll transfer you to sticks where the standards are lower. It's cheaper and easier than hiring someone new.

In my case, I have about ten weeks left on my contract. The school has not asked me if I am staying or going. I am also not part of EPIK or SMOE. I do work at a public school.

Since I don't know If I am staying or going, I did apply for new transcripts this week and am in the process of getting a new background check.

I think I can look around Korea, or take thechance and travel to another country if my school doesn't give me an offer.

You should be able to get another job. Ask around.

You can sign a new contract for a renewal year at any time, but to get your visa extended by immigration, it must be done in the last 30 days of your contract period. So, you and your school and agree to another year together, but immigration isnt interested or willing to make it official until your are in your 11th month. At that point, a trip to the immi office with some documents is necessary. Call immi at 1345 for info.

In Korea they don't like to tell you until the last minute if they don't intend to renew your contract. It's a face thing. You need to find out soon so you can either renew your contract or find a new job.

That's right.
The documents needed are;
Passport
ARC
An application form - with 30 000 won stickers
A copy of the new contract - all signed and dated
A sponsorship form from the school
A certificate auntheticating the school's validity.

Do they print out another visa for your passport?

They didn't even ask for my health check either. This was in the Seoul immigration office in Mok-Dong

And no visa either. They just gave me a stamp on the back of my ARC
