Does anyone know the laws on carrying a concealed knife in Korea?
A quick Google search leads you to a British knife collecting forum which reports that knives under 15cm are legal for possess, but not on one's self. Knives only 6cm and under seem to be allowed on ones person.
What I would like to know is whether this must be visible, or if it can be concealed. |

Getting any sort of information in English is going to be vague. The rule may have only applied to fix blade knives and not folding knives, but there's also no indication of that in English in the searches I've done.
On a related note, I noticed Korean children 7 years up and all seem to carry those sliding box cutters that terrorists hijack planes with. A folding leatherman tool doesn't seem all that bad then. |

I have no idea about the law, but I do have to ask why do you want to carry a concealed weapon? |

A tool for what purpose though?
self defense?
Cutting up meat?
cutting vines as you work your way through the jungle?
I'm at a loss as to why someone would need to carry a concealed knife anywhere let alone south korea? |

Doesn't matter. On with the original question. |

It may well matter. In some places you can carry if you have good reason to do so. and the people in charge decide the good reason.
No need to be so defensive. Carrying a knife for self defence and carrying one to open boxes as part of your job may well be important should you ever be stopped by the police. |

Well, none of us are Police and I don't see why the police should care why he is carrying an object that's completely legal to carry.
But anyway, all I know about this knife laws here is that switch blades(the type that has the blade come straight out of the handle) are illegal and it'll be hard to find someone who'll sell them to you. |

There are people I can ask, my hapkido master, kumdo master and the police officer i tutor for starters should be able questions relating to weapons, however they will all want to know why I am asking. if you can tell me why you want to know I can ask. I know for a fact it is illegal to carry metal swords in public |

Not being defensive, trying not to derail the thread so I can get some answers. |

Okay, ask the police officer if the requirement on 6cm knives on one's person applies to concealed carry, visible carry, or both. Tell him you're asking for a foreign friend who wants to be compliant with the law. The knife in question is a non-folding knife which is held in a sheath (the 6cm Bear Claw Knife by Columbia River Knife and Tool). |

but we dont know if its legal to carry. thats the point. whether its being carried for the purposes of self defence may well decide whether it is legal or not. |
