It was originally called StarOffice, Sun Microsystem's main form of competition against MS's suite, but a couple of years ago they branched off and this is the open source branch of things. An extremely capable productivity package. |
When I first tried StarOffice a few years ago (1999-2000), it tried to completely take over my whole desktop and mask Windows. It looked like my computer was being swallowed by an alien program. I had no end of trouble trying to work Windows and StarOffice functions at the same time. Also, StarOffice was around 150MB at the time; 602 Office Suite used much less memory. Sounds like StarOffice has improved. |

Well, yeah, it's no longer StarOffice. It's gone opensource, so any of that intrusive stuff has gone the way of the dodo. |
