|
|
I'm getting to the end of my first year in the public school system and I want to transfer to a more reasonable location. I'm out of the way in Busan, sup Sinpyeong? Anyways, I emailed a recruiter for jobs starting in February and he said that I can not choose the location of a public school becuase they are chosen at orientation. Is this true? I hope not.
How do other people bypass the recruiters.. maybe that would be a better idea ? |

| Talk to someone at your district or provincial office. Even if you want to change locations, theyre usually happy to work directly with a re-signing teacher because a) it saves them the cost of a recruiting fee (1-1.5 million won) to get a new teacher and b) you've already proven yourself and likely wont be a problem or quit part way through the contract. This is assuming that your current school hasnt or wont try to sabotage your renewal plans because theyre pissed you dont want to stay with them. |

| On the renewal form, there should be a section where you wish to be relocated, just state your preferences, and hopefully they will follow through your request. |

I hope EPIK are more reliable than SMOE.
SMOE are notorious for taking your request to be moved but not doing anything about it at all. |

Sometime in December, you should get a form which asks you if you want to re-sign at the same school, re-sign but change schools/levels (elementary/middle/high school, or if you are going to leave EPIK (resign). As another poster said, fill it out with your choices and locations and good luck to you.
And, I strongly suggest that after you have filled out the form and made your choices, that you make a photocopy of it in case something happens. Ten months ago, when I filled out the same form at the high school I worked at then, I put in that I wanted to transfer to the elementary level, but my school wanted to keep me. Someone changed my form without telling me. I found out when I called the EPIK manager to ask about something else and he told me about it. I was incredulous. I confronted my supervising co-teacher but he "didn't know anything about it." I let it go, because I got what I wanted. The leverage I had was that I had photocopied and kept a copy of the original form I gave to my senior co-teacher, the guy who knew nothing about it. This is true and it happened to me. Good luck. I hope you get what you want. |
