phone. It's a PHONE.
If your happiness hangs from whether or not you get your shiny, hipster, fresh-outta-college toy, then...make your own inferences, I'm not going to write it out. |
Both of my parents have one, many of my aunts and uncles also have one. They are certainly not fresh out of college or hipsters.
It is a revolutionary device. Some people get excited about gadgets, some don't. I don't think a single person mentioned how their happiness is hanging in the balance. You need to relax, this is the technology forum, people are talking about technology (and an article from the local newspaper). |
I think that, in order for the OP to call Koreans "cavemen in tuxedos" just because he can't get a special toy here, that's pretty pathetic and makes it seem like this thing is making him feel pretty damn unhappy. I love technology, my friends have iPhones, they worship Steve Jobs blah blah blah, but making racist comments over the iPhone is just plain pathetic. |

He called them cavemen as cavemen are the complete opposite of technology. I am not sure how that is racist.

I guess it can be interpreted as "old fashioned", but if you said, "black people are like cavemen in tuxedos", I doubt people would be all, "ohhh, that's not racist at all." It comes off sounding extremely harsh and is something I would never, ever say about an entire nation or ethnicity, no matter how angry I am about my favorite product not coming to where I have volunteered to live. |

Not defending the cavemen comment here...
Part of the difference here is what you consider Korea to be. Some consider it a nation. Others also consider it an ethnicity, although it can be soundly proven that the Koreans of today are a mixed race, much like the rest of the world. The Korean population has mixed Chinese, Indian, Japanese, and Mongolian blood. More recently, a large percentage of filipino blood has been entering the mix, not to mention Russian and Western blood.
Personally, I wouldn't generalize to such a degree about Koreans, but in my view, we're talking about a nation rather than an ethnicity.
As the Chinese saying goes, "Koreans are more Chinese than the Chinese."
In a few decades, Koreans will be even more mixed-raced, and fudging the family tree isn't going to be enough to hide it anymore.
Some people on this forum enjoy calling me a "racist." In fact, the reason I'm not a fan of the "one Korean blood" push is for two reasons:
1. It's just not true anymore.
2. Such arguments will most likely be used to exclude my child in some way, shape, or form. |

"Just when the industry thought that iPhone had finally been cleared for the Korean market, the Korea Communications Commission (KCC), the country's broadcasting and telecommunications regulator, put another stop, expressing concerns over the handset's capabilities for location-based services.
The Korean law mandates that companies providing location-based information to their customers must acquire a separate license. There is no written provision that the location-based service providers should base their operators on a local server, but the government so far has been asking the companies to do so. "
Stalling the I-phone in hopes of selling more Haptics. Pathetic. If I were Apple, I would just give up on this country. |

Apple iPhone is overrated.
If it is so lifechanging, then why are the top 50 Apps dominated by GAMES?
The iPhone is to Cell Phones what PDA's are to Personal Planners/organizers.
If you use it, and take advantage of it, it'll make your life easier. But, for the MAJORITY of the population, you don't need it. I remember an article that said something like 9 out of 10 apps on the iPhone only get used once or twice before its ignored.
Also, if all touch screen phones now are ripoffs of the iPhone than all Apple products since the companies inception are stealing/ripping off of Xerox. |

Apple doesn't care. It was KTF or one of the telecoms pushing them (Apple) to let them be the exclusive provider. |

ROFL. Racist? wtf are you smoking? I was talking about the fact that Koreans love to tout how "technology advanced" in mobile their country is when there is a blatantly corrupt process restricting both mobile web development as well as any "threatening" foreign technology...but i guess that's racist of me too.
And yes i am unhappy. I might ACTUALLY be forced to buy a Blackberry...shudder. |

It's true that the iPhone symbolizes something much more than just a phone. It's the one phone that Korean cell phone manufactures have been copying the past two years, while the phone is not even allowed to compete in their market.
Also the Korean government subsidizes ONLY domestic cell phones for ONLY citizens. While America recently subsidized Korean AND domestic car purchases. (Imagine if America only supported Domestic purchases with the stupid Cash for Clunkers Deal, Hyundai sales went up over %150 percent during that period)
The fact is that the iPhone is NOT being able to compete fairly, while Korean is raping our car manufactures. Is that even close to fair? Imagine if we started saying that 10 year warranties on cars was a concern for national security?
I'm currently boycotting all Korean products (besides the samsung monitor that I just bought ) Well, at least cars and cell phones...
This is BULL!!! |

The Korean mobile carriers are all about milking as much money as possible from Korean consumers.
They [SK] don't want the iPhone (and it's Wifi capability) because they are afraid of what it will do to the phone market.
SK's latest attempt at an App Store is just dreadful and pure profiteering.

Search this forum for "iPhone". By the response of some people, you would believe KOrea was stuck in the STone Age because there is no iphone. |

Korea has been unfairly promoting its own goods while at the same time blocking imported goods. The sad thing is American companies don't push for sanctions or tariffs on goods from Korea.
I don't really care about the iPhone, but I do care about fair competition and having choices. Korea sucks for choice. |
