Does anyone have the official word on quarantine status for leaving the country?
Is it mandatory to have a 7-10 quarantine when returning to Korea?
Does it only apply if you have symptoms?
I also wonder if it varies from POE to POE or principal to principal.

I got the OK to go wherever over Chuseok but my handler thinks I will have to be quarantined due to a national health advisory notice. However, the notice is dated from the start of the semester (Aug. 24th). I don't think I will be going anywhere if I must be quarantined for the sake of being a good sport.

I'm almost positive I won't be quarantined.

If I understood one of my HS boys today correctly, they said that in the mechanical dept, one of the boys has "new flu".

Shocked

Laughing

I'm almost certain now I'll be less likely to catch this flu outside of Korea where I'm going for chuseok Smile

perhaps if I am quarantined.. it should be in THAT country as well Laughing

I wasnt planning on leaving for chuseok anyhow... but if they think they are stopping me from doing winterbreak abroad...

I am just going to wait until it gets closer before I press it. We have to give 15 days notice for vacation, so its a bit early for me to start fighting over it. I like my PS and the people I work with, and I don't want to pick a fight if it will all cool down on its own.

Obviously this 'don't leave the country,' garbage is... garbage and well retarded... so maybe they will realize it. we'll see.

Yes. The national government sent out instructions on how to deal with this. I posted the full text of that in another thread.

No, it is not mandatory. A quick reality check should be enough to convince you of that. Incheon airport is still operating and admitting quite a number of people into the country. Where would all those people be quarantined? A further reality check will reinforce that: Swine Flu is in Korea and people are flying to other countries without being quarantined before departing Korea or upon arrival in the destination country.

Just like before the discovery of the H1N1 virus, only those who exhibit symptoms of a contagious disease will be quarantined.

Neither the POE nor the principal has the authority to dock you time and pay for simply taking a trip overseas.

Your handler's a moron.

There's being a good sport and then there's shooting yourself in the foot. If they're willing to pay you for an unrequired week away from work on which they insist, then be a good sport. If they're threatening to not pay you, remind them of the facts and that there are at least three avenues where you can seek redress.

I work for a public school in Busan and one of the students came down with this particular virus. The school followed the national directive to the letter. Perhaps you should tell your handler to show you the exact place in that directive where you are required to be quarantined.
