We have:
1. The Intellectual Snob. Has read more books or something. Is above most mere slobs.
2. The Money Snob. Has wealth. Can look down on those beneath.
3. The Travel Snob. Knows the world. You don't.
4. The my past was rough snob. In my day,....
5. The pretty snob. Looks are everything.
any I missed?

Good point. I figure that includes everybody or almost everybody. Not to be philosophical, but this is where it is. We are all exclusive and separate. Snobbery is expected.
And
the idea that whatever you have experienced is special: shall we call that the "you are incorrect" snob deal special?
Ah, but people still seek it out. Ok. Let's try. |

Is the intellectual snob the same as the qualifications snob, i.e. someone who has more qualifications than you? |

Well, they may intersect at times. I'd give the intellectual snob more points here. He knows more and can outwit the qualifications snob any day.
The intellectual snob is usually not so intrepid though. He tends to defer ( or is that shy away or demur?), at least a little bit, to others who have letters behind their names, like mmb or phg or something like that. Actually he's quite a jerk. |

Guilty of Type 4, though it's entirely warranted. Facts is facts. Previously guilty of Type 3, occasionally guilty of Type 5, but primarily guilty of a particular subset of Type 2 snobbery: the house snob. Indeed, it was my shameless and relentless posting of house porn on Dave's ESL Cafe that resulted in everyone's pic-posting privileges being revoked forever. |

There are many forms of the food snob. For example:
"I'm an organic vegan raw foodist. My body so much purer than yours. I would never pollute my body with processed food. I never get sick. I'm always energetic and happy! Oh and I don't age . . . OMG! Are you really going to eat that murdered cow burger?!! Is that a white flour bun?? The HORROR!" |

Hehe, yes, those types can be annoying. At least the vegans that are pushy and in your face about it.
I would add the school snob (which would be similar to the qualifications snob). Someone who thinks they're better than you just because they went to some famous school like UofT or McGill or something, when in reality the actual quality of their school probably wasn't all that much better than yours. |

I guess these are all subtypes of the basic categories but here they are...
The Toy Snob- Always comparing their toy of choice to yours and explaining why your life is crap because you don't have A)450 HP beneath your hood B)5GHz Pentium with dual monitors C)A Cell Phone that also has a Swiss Army Knife D)Every Single Dungeons & Dragons Book E)(For Girls) Some cosmetic or beauty supply item that is totally holding you back or some article of clothing
The Connections Snob- Works as a Secretary at some Pols office/restaurant frequented by celebs and therefore brags that she knows "Famous/Powerful Person X" Constantly talking about banquets and with her at the center, even though her boss just invited her and the rest of the staff to be nice/handle business.
In Guys this involves the guy who brags about drug dealers/other shady types/people who've killed.
The Military Snob- You've Never worn a uniform/seen combat? Out of my way sissy. Enough said. A cousin of the MMA/Martial Arts snob
The Music Snob- Always mentioning some obscure band/musician and why they are good and why you suck because you've never head them before.
The Sports/games snob- Too much gear, way too competitive, views things only through the prism of their favorite sport. What you don't cycle/play street ball? you are a waste of space. |

Wine Snob - The quintissential snob that started it all. I can profess to being one myself.
"Good Cabernet Sauvignon has just the slightest taste of graphite with strong blackberry and currant flavors, with a refined nose and a smooth, long lasting finish, and ever-so slightly leathery tannins" |

Number 4 is a strange one. Some people like to say how they were beaten around by their old man, and wear it like some kind of badge of honour. |

I'm number 1. I have a rough list of books and authors..if someone claims to be a fan of one or several of them then I write them off immediately. Sad but true. |
