the way of the future. There is no reason why you couldn't use one of these to output your iphone/Touch or other smart phone to a monitor and use it like any other computer. Massive tower, desk top computers just seem so over kill to me. |
I love my 75lb full tower. Wouldn't have it any other way. |

Until devices like that can outperform desktops.......does an iphone have the processing power of a quadcore?...........then people will still want desktops. You can't do much more than surf the net on those things.
Why do people insist on smaller and smaller? I suppose if you live in a 2 pyeong goshiwon then it makes sense.
I got lots of room to put my desktop. And it rocks! |

The thing is most people don't need all that power. Most people only surf the net anyway. In my opinion, the Iphone does 90% of what 75% of people need a computer for. I'm not saying you won't be allowed to have your hog of a rig, I'm saying this will cover a sizeable niche. |

The iphone doesn't have flash in the browser, or javascript, so I don't think it remotely does 90% of what 75% of the people do.
Checking email and browsing the web is a much more involved task than simply opening an email client or a web browser. |

Granted. I'm speaking hypothetically. There is no reason why the Iphone can't do this. Or some similarly specced smart phone. You can't edit Google Docs on it either. I don't see why they couldn't make that possible. It's not like you can't watch youtube videos on it though. |

Probably shorten the battery and processor life with all the work it would have to do. |

It would be powered by the dock. Internet should run through the dock as well, but it doesn't in the product I linked to. |

Probably because it doesn't have the power to embed those in an already running web browser. There are also a multitude of other plug-ins and apps people use. Multi-tasking is also pretty big. I wouldn't want to have to keep closing my browser to open my instant messenger. |

In 20 years, nanotech will have shrunken desktops to the size of the iPhone. Or quantum processing, blah blah. We won't always have massive towers beside us. CRTs have been replaced by these 1/5 the size LCDs. The tower's time is next. |

It won't take twenty years. I believe we are pretty close with smart phones. It's all about convergence. |
