I have a contract for a GEPIK position to start in November (Anyang, Kwanyang Elementary School) that I am debating whether or not to sign. I was not originally interested in being in Seoul, so being in a satellite city also does not necessarily interest me (although I understand the draw). My first preferences were places like Gyeongju, Jinju, Changwon... even Busan/Daegu area. I love being out in nature, am more of a laid-back personality and don't feel the need to party all the time (however, I also like to go out for a few beers on weekends, occasional week nights).

I have a recruiter who I am hoping will help place me in one of these locations, but won't find out for at least a week about whether any of those schools are interested in me. The Anyang position wants an answer now and I don't know what to do. Oh, and is it weird to not have provided an EPIK/GEPIK application for this position? I also didn't have an interview...

Do suburbs of Seoul compare at all with suburbs of large US cities? (That's what I'm trying to stay away from... strip malls, identical houses, chain restaurants/stores...).

Am I better off holding out for a more preferred location, or just taking the Anyang position because I'm lucky to get a public school at all? (since that's what I decided that I wanted).

Sorry for the long post...
THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU in advance Smile

No, suburbs of Korea and US don't compare.
US: Houses with lawns and backyards, curbs with shoulders for pedestrians, shops on high street, parks.
Korea: multi-story houses, shops next to houses, no pedestrian curbs, cars parked in every available space, no parks. More like inner city in US but not the Central Business District.

I'd go for the Anyang job. It sounds like what you're looking for.

Considering the large amount of teacher applicants right now and the lack of PS jobs until Feb/March for the most part, I'd say you're pretty lucky to get the job in Anyang, so don't take it for granted. Just my 2 cents Smile

There are 'November' EPIK positions available in Changwon (Palyong Mididdle School 11/11) and Jinju (Munsan Middle School 11/21)... as well as for Nov./Dec.: two in Masan, three in Yangsan, two in Goseong, and two in Haman.

Contact a recruiter who is working for the Gyeongsangnam-do Provincial Office of Education.

My high school jobs in Haman are up for grabs starting December 7th. Not sure if recruiters are handling it or not yet. If interested, PM me.
