If I had a job in Korea 3 years ago, left Korea, gave up my ARC card, got a new passport (last one expired), then got a new job in Korea, would I get the same ARC card number?
I have copies of the old ARC card that I can submit to immigration if that helps.
How do they know that someone applying had an ARC before? Do they specifically ask you if you had an ARC before?
I hope and need to get the same ARC number for various reasons.
Thanks,

You will still have the same number. Not sure where you are from, but it's like the social security number in America. Once you have it, it's yours, even if you leave and come back.

I appreciate the response above, thanks.
I just want to bump this to see if anyone has any closer experience to the case where someone (me) is coming back to Korea with new passport, new job, new address... Luckily name and birt date are the same.
Is Immi going to know that I am the person who was here before and give me same ARC number? I suppose I have to tell them I was working here before.
Thanks,

Wrong!!!

The ARC number will change. My 1st ARC card I got in 2007. That school sent me to Japan after 30 days. After I got teh ARC card the school had to fire me due to there postponing of my visa.

When I came back later that year, I got a whole new ARC number. The ARC number only stays the same if you contunie your contract withen Korea. You can change schools and keep the card. But if you leave and come back you will get a new ARC number.

It seems that they are "supposed to" be giving us the same number as before; but as the case above shows, they don't always do it.
Anyone who went away from Korea, gave up ARC, came back and got same ARC, was there anything special you did to make sure you got the same ARC as before?
Thanks,

Nope, nothing special. I would suspect that even asking about it would put you under scrutiny. Why the bother about your number anyways?

I had an ARC, left Korea in 2004 for 6 months, came back and was issued a new ARC with the same number. I left again in 2007 for a year, came back again and got the same ARC number as on the previous 2 occasions. I didn't do anything special - I had even changed my family name during that time due to marriage.

Wow, even changed family name. I guess that means you changed your passport too?
Anyway, good to know that they are "supposed to" keep same ARC under all circumstances. But since they can't keep up with whose diplomas and transcripts they have verified...

I've had the same ARC for nine years (six different contracts) I've left several times.

The ARC numbers I received in 1995 and 2000 are not the same as I have now. Some time since then they have standardized the system such that you should get the same number each time. I changed my name and still have the same number.

I just hope it is not tied to passport number. Because I have a new passport.

In order to change my name, I had to get a new passport.
