Im up for re-signing for a fourth year at the same school. Im fairly highly valued as a head teacher, but in these economic times, who knows. Maybe they just want a newbie they can pay 2.2 for...

So Im at 2.7 now. I want to leave and try my luck teaching in Canada (I have a B.Ed.) I like my job here, but feel uninspired, like Im wasting some good years of my career here in hagwan land.

So...if it doesn't work out in Canada...I would consider coming back to this job in Korea. Im sure they would take me back at first opening.

However...do I ask for my same salary? Or expect less?

Thanks for your thoughts.

If you have been there that long, I would tell them exactly what you posted. I don't know your situation, and if I was in Korea for that long I would try to establish higher visa status (if you don't already).

The concern I would have isn't so much the salary, but would I have to start from 0 again with an E2 visa or could I continue where I left off?

One thing to help make your argument stronger if you do talk to them is that you mentioned education. You would be going back to Canada and possibly coming back more qualified. This alone should help keep your salary higher than others.

A concern the school would have is that they will need to replace you when you leave, and if they want to stay as head teacher it will probably be hard to get rid of them.

You could go back to Canada, get some edumacation, then check out different schools. You might find that you have overstayed your current job and need to move on to different things.
