Another example of how socialist government institutions lack reason and competence by their very nature. Another reason that socialism always fails is that under socialism basic human intelligence degrades to the level of lower animals.

State to mom: Stop baby-sitting neighbors' kids

By JAMES PRICHARD, Associated Press Writer James Prichard
Tue Sep 29, 7:23 pm ET

IRVING TOWNSHIP, Mich. Each day before the school bus comes to pick up the neighborhood's children, Lisa Snyder did a favor for three of her fellow moms, welcoming their children into her home for about an hour before they left for school.

Regulators who oversee child care, however, don't see it as charity. Days after the start of the new school year, Snyder received a letter from the Michigan Department of Human Services warning her that if she continued, she'd be violating a law aimed at the operators of unlicensed day care centers.

"I was freaked out. I was blown away," she said. "I got on the phone immediately, called my husband, then I called all the girls" that is, the mothers whose kids she watches "every one of them."

Snyder's predicament has led to a debate in Michigan about whether a law that says no one may care for unrelated children in their home for more than four weeks each calendar year unless they are licensed day-care providers needs to be changed. It also has irked parents who say they depend on such friendly offers to help them balance work and family.

On Tuesday, agency Director Ismael Ahmed said good neighbors should be allowed to help each other ensure their children are safe. Gov. Jennifer Granholm instructed Ahmed to work with the state Legislature to change the law, he said.

"Being a good neighbor means helping your neighbors who are in need," Ahmed said in a written statement. "This could be as simple as providing a cup of sugar, monitoring their house while they're on vacation or making sure their children are safe while they wait for the school bus."

Left to their own devices, socialist bureaucrats could destroy the US, even the world, in a matter of months. In this case at least, the governor has stepped in. But, this one is a no-brainer. It should never have happened at all. The more power the socialists arrogate to themselves, the worse things get.

I am glad at least they see the law to be nonsensical.

Imagine if they had said *sorry, the law is the law. We are just doing our job*!!!!

So then you agree with Hillary because 'it takes a village' and neighbors should be allowed to look after the safety of each others kids? Sounds right to me.

The saddest part is this is the rule and not the exception. Yet people still try to claim that govt isn't a failure in the sum total of its parts.

the op's 'blame socialism' spin on this is nonsense

the longstanding law is patently protectionistic of the daycare industry, a typical CAPITALISTIC move to protect the profits of businesses, to reduce all social relations to an economic exchange of the almighty dollar

Why shouldn't neighbours or friends help each other out?

I am a single mother, I NEED my friends.

That wasnt Hilary's idea. And then she had a ghost writer write the book and refused to give credit to the woman who actually wrote it.

Jumpin Jesus. No. Capitalism is not a system whereby the state uses her monopolistic power favor vested interests.

It's a bad law, there are lots of 'em. The original drafts come from Dems and Republicans alike. They should have included a paragraph or exceptions for cases like this. Unless, of course, she is getting paid to care for those kids. Then she should have a license.
