What's your take on refurbished products?

Is it hit or miss, or should I avoid certain refurbished products or refurbishers?

Depends on the product. If you RMA a hard drive, 9 times out of 10 you will received a Factory Reconditioned hard drive as a replacement. There's no getting around it.

I would only buy a refurbished is the warranty on the refurbished product was the same as a new product.

Most times, a refurbished item will have a MUCH shorter warranty. If its the same as a new product, then why would the manufacturer shorten the warranty so much?

If the warranty is the same, then I'd buy a refurbished.

I bought my current digital camera three years ago as 'refurbished'. I think it was an ex-demo. Same warranty as a brand new one. I wouldn't mind it breaking so I'd have an excuse to get a more up to date one. It's still working perfectly though.

Many products on Ebay are refurbished and priced to match. My first purchase was digital camera and it done me many years.

Bought a HP dv6000 on gmarket 2 years ago... still running smooth. Sometimes you'll find minor scratches on the products but if the warranty is in order, the price is right... why not!!!

Seconded. Bought a refurbished Canon DSLR EOS 350D from a refurbished dealer on eBay at the end of 2005 and I still use it today. Never had any problems with it at all.
