Great book. Doesn't look like it will be that faithful to the source, though. 50% of the trailer is the back story, which makes up about 15% of the book. Plus, it looks like they are going to use global warming to explain the global catatrophe |

It looks okay, but who really knows, it could be great or it could be terrible. We should just be happy that the movie is even getting made.
Though it does have Garrett Dillahunt in it, which pretty much makes it good no matter what. |

I'll go watch it. I don't care if it doesn't stay true to the book, movies rarely do anyway. Plus, I love apocalyptic movies like this. |

I've been looking forward to this movie for a long time. When I was in university, there were two films being shot nearby: "Little Chicago" and "The Road". The former was being filmed right in town and has been on hold for a good long while, meanwhile the latter was being shot about 30 minutes away near Lake Erie. It was also shot at the Pennsylvania Turnpike. I was afraid this movie would meet the same fate, but I'm glad to see its still alive.
What is disappointing, however, is that no scenes in the trailer resemble the preproduction stills that I saw many months ago. They were gray, cold, and snowy, precisely as depicted in the novel. If I remember correctly, one of the folks with the film crew said they had to apply a lot of snow effects because it was an unusually warm (and wet) spring for the area. I didn't see much of that in the trailer.
There also appears to be a lot more action. I read the book immediately after it came out (big McCarthy fan here), so it's been a while, but I only recall him shooting his revolver once, at the caravan of cannibals (I believe he only had two shots, but I could remember wrongly).
I also do not remember any big fires in the novel.
But I'm looking forward to it. I loved Viggo Mortensen in Hidalgo (sp?) and Robert Duvall in Lonesome Dove. I won't let the cinematographic sodomy that was the The Time Traveler's Wife adaptation ruin this for me, no no no! |

I never heard any one else mention Garrett Dillahunt as someone to watch, but I was really impressed with him on "Deadwood", where he actually played two different characters. I especially liked his role of Jack McCall, the man who shot Wild Bill Hickock.
He had a small role in No Country For Old Men, another Cormac McCarthy book. |

This is exactly what I was thinking. One of the main props in the novel was the trolley they push their stuff around in. It's kind of a big deal when they lose it. Also I don't get the part where someone shoots some kind of rocket into the house, and it blows up. Totally don't remember that part.
That was what i liked about no country. They pretty much changed nothing. The only part I can think of is when the dog chases him down the river. But that was original and exciting and actually added something to the movie.
When I see the movie, I will probably be able to put up with some changes. But if they make it about global warming, I will walk out of the cinema, just because the book leaves that part purposely ambiguous. |

Yeah, he's a great actor, I noticed him in Deadwood seasons 1 and 2 as well. |

I've read elsewhere online that the trailer pumps the movie up, but that it is actually fairly close to the book.
Still, I'm almost scared to watch the movie. There are scenes from the book that are so vivid in my mind. I absolutely loved the book. I sobbed at the ending. Sobbed. And abook has never made me shed a tear before. |

I doubt it, champ. They've pushed back the release date into November, Stateside. |

Just watched this movie. Depressing. Makes one want to stock up on LOTS of guns/ammo and FOOD. Ugh. |

Wow, the predictions people made on this movie were way off. They didn't focus on the back story much at all (not that I read the book). About the 15% or less that another poster mentioned was the focus in the book.
I guess it just goes to show you can't judge a movie by its trailer.
All in all I liked it I guess. Slow moving and without much of a plot but it's good if you want to be depressed. I don't think I'd gain anything from additional viewings. |

It's a human drama, not a thriller, adventure or action flick.
It's a pretty good drama but since it focuses so entirely on the main two characters and on the central issue of whether and when a man can give up hope and do away with all that matters to him in the face of a terrifying alternative, it could just as well be adapted to the stage.
It's got Academy award nomination written all over it for Best Actor. The son, however, isn't developed enough, is there to set up the main character's reactions more than is a flesh and blood character.
The throwaway ending at least hints at two possible alternatives before settling on the trite choice. |

I'm looking forward to reading the book, mainly because of the back story. Hoping it'll fill in some gaping holes the movie leaves out. For example, what was the cause of the apocalypse? Why would they build fires at night along the way to keep warm if they were trying to stay undetected and unseen? Etc. |
