I would like to thank roadwork for the suggestion of a martial arts (MA) sticky, as we right now have several threads about MAs going on. So, from now on, please post MA-related things to this thread. Other threads will be removed. Thanks for your cooperation.
For the Mod Team,

Yes....this awesome sticky, that has no information in it whatsoever...
Ah well,
Again, does anyone have any information (besides Frankyl, looking into that now) regarding MMA or BJJ around gangnam?
Any info would be hugely appreciated. |

Does anyone know how woman friendly any of these places are? Have any of you taken classes where there were female students? Any recommendations? I'm willing to travel. |

I train at Korea Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Academy, the first academy I listed above, and there are several women who train with us, one or two come to almost every class. The vast majority of people who practice BJJ are young adult males, but BJJ is for anyone, and our academy is definitely a safe place for women to train. There is also a separate changing/shower room for women. |

Gyeonggido (but still on the Seoul subway lines)
Guri
Styles: Muay Thai and Sambo
Directions: If you are leaving Citibank, turn right and walk down that street for 10 minutes. It's on the second floor, same floor as the pool hall. You'll see the pool hall sign and a sign for 삼보 (Sambo).
Geumjeong
Style: Muay Thai
Directions: You can see it from the subway platform. Its in a building on the corner on the fourth floor.
Suwon
Style: Muay Thai
Directions: Walk out of Suwon Station and go down the street thats right in front of you (the street that ends at the subway station). About 100 yards down the street, at the light where the pedestrian crosswalk is located, there should be a Mauy Thai gym on the second floor in one of the buildings on the right. Its easier to see from the other side of the street. Look for an ALPHA stationary store, it's on the second floor just to the left of that shop. The training sessions begin around 5-5:30, then one at 6:30-7pm and again at 9. |

Does anyone know of any muay thai / kickboxing / boxing gyms in Incheon. I've only heard of MAHA muay thai but know nothing of it (ie location or whether there's any english trainers). If anyone could give me any info on MAHA or any other similar places it'd be greatly appreciated. |

Aikido (Seoul)
The central dojo for Aikido in Korea is in Sinchon (line 2) - go out exit 5 and it's round the back of the Woori Bank building. The website (with English!) is:
http://aikido.co.kr/
Most classes are taught by Yoon Ik-Am, who was a student of Usuo Kobayashi in Japan. |

Alright redaxe, you've convinced me.
(I'm the big dude looking for a school) I found a pretty convenient bus route out to your school, so I'll come check it out. I've got a gi and I'll bring everything I need to register, probably one night this week or next. What nights do you train, I'd love to meet you and maybe roll with someone who's at least close to my height.
(I would have pm'ed but I'm too new to Dave's) |

Awesome, hope to see you there! I normally train on Sat & Sun at 2 PM and Mon & Wed at 8:30PM, but usually I have some sort of time conflict on one of those days so I end up averaging about 3 days a week. And the gym is closed on the 10th 20th and 30th of every month, so this week I'll be in there tomorrow (Wed 10/7) and Sunday (10/11). Next week I plan to train Mon, Wed, Sun too.
If you like, try a few places out--maybe our academy, John Frankl's, and Evolution, and compare and contrast to and see which is the best fit for you. Good luck! |

Anyone know of any Goju schools? My Shihan also suggested I try Taekwondo. And like Mallard, I'm curious about how female students are treated. |
