Anyone can sue anyone for any reason, even here; however, the real issue is will they prevail in the suit? Speaking of which, let's see a link to someone actually winning a suit against a fast food chain for making them fat.

yeah. i guess im just bitter about constantly stepping over guys in my neigborhood, who have passed out because they drank themselves stupid. no sympathy.

You'd rather a person die than for you to have to step around him? You're "bitter" about that, and so you have no sympathy for someone who died (and it may or may not have been from alcohol poisoning)?

Christ.

did i say that?

i get tired of people taking no personal responsibility. you act like a retard, pay the consequences. i was assuming he died as a result of drinking too much booze. if that is the case then i dont much sympathy for him. i wouldnt expect sympathy. i guess i'd be grateful to the good people in the emergency services if they were to help me.

Yeah, I stopped taking you seriously when you wrote "retard".

Good luck, buddy.

Fans are only deadly if you don't leave a window opwn. he was able to call for help several times, so we can assume he wasn't completely enclosed. the fan is innocent.

If the guy was awake and conscious enough to complain and talk...wouldn't he have called his family or at the least medical help himself? Jes' sayin.

it strikes me as odd that they didn't list the actual cause of death...either way, it's the guy's fault for getting wasted and passing out. blaming the cops for not taking a drunk guy seriously is a bit ridiculous.

Why did the police even take hime in? Was he a danger to himself? I'd say the cops should pony up the money and next time mind their own buisness. Live and learn.

No, it's just no secret that suing people in America is practically a national pastime, and people sue for absolutely ridiculous amounts. For example, the old woman who spilled coffee on herself and got millions, or any other hilarious amount people get for doing stupid shit. In America the family of the deceased would get millions and the officers would be fired, all thanks to someone else being a moron.

Yes, as we all know, if the window was closed the fan would have cut up all the air molecules and suffocated him.

That old woman was a 79 year old grandma who got 2nd and 3rd degree burns over her crotch due to coffee hotter than any person could drink. McDonalds refused her offer of a $20,000 settlement and she ended up with something like $500,000.

The best recent example is the Judge who sued the Chinese (maybe Korean?) dry cleaners for something like 40 mil for losing his favorite pants. Ahh, here it is.

They were Korean. He didn't win, but think of the stress he put these people through. And a judge! Would you like to see this sort of stuff here?

To be fair it should be "Family sues NET for 500million won for losing son." I could see that one happening too.

It has its excesses, but most frivolous suits go nowhere in the US system. Our legal system is the envy of much of the world. It enjoys a high perception of legitimacy, its statutes and body of common law have developed a high level of expertise in many areas, its judges are highly-educated and experienced and largely incorruptible. That's why so many international companies choose to do their business under US law, even if their business is being done in France or Indonesia or anywhere else.

So yes, Korea probably should emulate the US system in many respects. There certainly have been calls to do that recently in regards to criminal law.

Also, in REAL "3rd world" countries, the average person could barely earn the equivalent of 10 million won in a lifetime of work.

Anyone who thinks South Korea in any way resembles a 3rd world country has obviously never been to one.

I think you missed Mr. Pink's point: not that Korea is a 3d world country, but that its legal system's development hasn't caught up to its economic development.
