|
|
Alright, I didn't think it would be so difficult to buy trendy clothes in Seoul because the size issue. I didn't figure all the Men in Korea would have physiques of that of little girls.
So here is my question, where should I go for bigger sized clothes? I went to Itaewon but the selection is okay, and half the "BIG" sized clothes are for HUGE guys. I'm a average sized white male (though I gained some weight since I moved here), so I need really "LOOSE" fitting clothes, not "EXTRA BAGGY"
I heard Dongdeamun or whatever, though I would like specific stores and direction or suggestions please.

Doota in Dongdaemun....sizes won't be a problem unless your over 6 feet tall, have super long arms, or are overweight.
I had wide shoulders and sometimes cheap jackets don't fit as well, but everything else is usually great.
Regular korean brands(giodorno, buckeroo) generally have bigger sizes. |

It's not so much that they don't cater for western sizes, more that they don't cater to the North American preference for looser fits. You can buy Abercrombie and Fitch at COEX and Rodeo Street (Apgujeong dong) in Seoul, Zara has a store in both COEX and Myeong-dong, there are GAP stores at most AK department store buildings; Rodeo Street in Apgujeong-dong also has a Club Monaco and Guess. Myeong-dong is the best place to go to find good designer clothes from stores that you can find in most other western countries.
I'd stay away from Dongdaemun if I was you...that stuff is cheap for a reason. I bought a nice looking shirt from there and the damn thing is slowly shrinking to the size of a baby with every wash! |

Someone needs to mention that the DOOTAH building has an import floor - used to be B1 or B2, anyway the sizes are all WESTERN and the goods they sell are from AMERICA. Let me say that one more time so you don't misunderstand - They are IMPORTED and they are WESTERN SIZES.
Most other stores that sell western products are all Korean sizes. So that is important if you're looking for a western large as opposed to a Korean large, which is like a medium back home. |

OK so where can I buy clothes if I am over six feet tall and do have super long arms? Because I am, and I do, and that's why I haven't bought any clothing in my 15 months in Korea... |

You just ask any random Korean which exit to go out. They all know that building. Sorry I can't tell you which exit, I don't take the subway much. |

Exit 8 walk a little it's on your left, at least according to Google maps. You could just enter 두타 and see what comes up. |

For future reference, does anyone know shops in the Seoul area where I might be able to buy shoes that fit (I'm a size 12 UK/size 13 US)? Will the shops/areas mentioned previously sell larger footwear or should I stock up before going across? |

Buy what you need/desire when it comes to footwear. The style and size selection could be slim pickings and/or expensive here. |

That's what I thought. Is it possible to put an order in at shops? I normally wear Converses as my day to day footwear and I believe there are Converse shops out there. |

I find that online shopping is the easiest solution....especially in this recession there are a lot of great deals back home, and most places have free shipping within the US, so I just order a bunch of clothes/shoes at a time and then pay $50-60 for shipping and have my dad ship the stuff over. It ends up being the same price or cheaper than shopping in Korea because you pay much higher prices for large clothes here, and then you can just buy whatever you want instead of sifting through the Itaewon stuff. |

I agree. I do the same thing. There are some great deals and much more variety when you order things from America. Some companies even offer international shipping like American Eagle and JcPenney. Plus, online shopping is a lot of fun. If you have a favorite store sign up to recieve emails from them and they will be sending you discount coupons every week. |

Unfortunately, the demand for clothes that fit overweight people here is very low. So you may have a problem. |

Im not a big guy either and have a hard time finding shirts and shoes that fit and that i like (outside of seoul) . And i only wear a size 10.5 shoe and a 100 korean shirt size. I know they carry size 10.5 shoes but they are always soldout when i try to buy the ones i want... I could also wear smaller korean shirts like size 90-95. They fit around the arms and waste but they are too tight around the shaulders. Shaulders too wide. And i guess korean guys like tighter shirts and have narrower shaulders... I havent had any problems finding pants these days. Im a size 30-32. Most bigger brand names should have the sizes you're looking for , like Beanpole or Poleham etc. although limited.. |
