How many of you are asked to sign in and check out with your school? Do you like that? It can work in our favor I guess because they would have a record of our times and that can be used to support any unpaid wages. However, I don't see the point in it unless they are looking for ways to deduct pay.
Have any of you flat out refused to do this with your school or previous school? If so, what was their response and were you able to get out of doing this? |

The new contract that I signed at my public school said that I had to fill out an attendance book every day. It also said that any time I go on personal business, such as to do banking, etc., that I am to sign this attendance book and that the time will be deducted from my vacation.
I've never seen such an attendance book and I've never been asked to report my time. Perhaps they are more concerned about teachers who are not at the school when they should be. Have they had problems with you escaping or something? |

I've been late a few times (not late past 9am when classes start, but later than 8:30) and always stay my required time, if not longer, in the afternoon to make up for it if it happens. Common sense would suggest that this is ok but in the back of my mind I'm wondering if the school will say something in the next 3 weeks when it's coming up to severance pay time. I don't honestly expect them to, but you never really know I guess.
We don't have to check in and check out though. |

No, it's not a personal thing. I do an after school program, and I am scheduled to come in at 11am. However, I don't teach until 1pm.
So, they told me after a month or so, I could have the option of not coming in until 12:30pm so long as I was prepared to teach that day. 12pm-1pm is lunch.
I don't want to sign in at 1pm and find out they are going to deduct pay because I am not coming in at 11am. I suggested they change the hours to 1pm-7pm. If they wanted to make sure I was there at 12:30, then I guess 12:30-6:30 would suffice.
This way, we could leave earlier if we didn't need to prepare lessons, and it would have the same effect without the early period.
I just feel the condition should be that if we are going to miss class, then we have to contact the school. I guess it's like when Asians correct homework, they circle all the right answers instead of just the wrong ones  |

The circling of right answers instead of wrong ones always got me, too!  I never encountered this before coming to Korea. |

| I had to punch in and out at a Hakwon a few years ago. I only had to be there on time for class and could leave when finished. i forgot many times but they never complained and i had no Pay issues. YMMV |

lol this is normal where im from
At my Hakwon we all have punch in cards, i dont think the weigooks really do them and nothing has been said. Were also meant to notify if we leave for an errand. However i think this is more for if someones looking for us or if we get a pphone call.
Maybe they're just there for the Koreans...Im used to punching in so i dont mind it...

| My PS has one specially for my daily attendance and one for vacation. I`m going to burn the attendance log when my contract`s finished. I hate signing that damn book everyday and giving a nice fake annyeon/good morning to the VP. |

LOL, the other teachers were surprised when I said any marks on a paper back home were a good thing. I still can't get used to the circles, but I have started marking the right answers with checks, and the wrong ones with x's.... with green or purple pens, lol. |
