Anyone else's public school cafeteria lunch taking a turn for the worse in terms of taste?

The last month or so I've noticed a considerable drop-off in quality. And not just me, but my co-workers as well. Before if I didn't finish some of my co-workers would stare and ask if something was wrong. Now they just stare at their own tray, unable to finish their meal.

Today everyone was just sitting sullenly, picking and playing with the food. The whole staff was griping about it.

Even my "Our school #1" principal apologized for the food the other day to some guests- construction workers no less.

It's probably because of rising food costs. Still...

No, it seems that my cafeteria food is getting better! Fresh fish in chili paste, with fresh onions and garnishments, nice soup with meat, and good side dishes. I REALLY notice these things, because half the time I can't eat anything since I am wheat and dairy intolerant.

But, I go for group solidarity and often stare at my tray, sigh. I remember one time, everyone audibly gasped as I walked back with a single chicken leg on my tray, lol. THAT was a dramatic re-enactment of what I often feel.

No, lunch has been good these days, for the most part.

Mine has been great lately. It probably depends on how much money the Principal allocates to the food budget. It seems like towards the end of the term the food gets worse. I guess because the budget is running down. My theory at least.

After 8 years of working in Public schools..

I know that..

the quality of the food decreases more and more towards the end of the year...

by November and December the food will NOT be good..

then - miraculously - when you eat again during the FIRST two weeks of February - the food will be the BEST ever -

like the adjumnas are begging to keep their jobs - they cook up the best food ever in February...

.

in the meantime - the food during November and December will get worse each day

I have noticed this! They stopped putting meat in the kimchi jjigae, they stopped putting egg in the sundubu jjigae, and the pieces of tonkatsu are gradually getting smaller and smaller! Mad

But then, I don't work for a school, I work for a chaebol that has been losing millions of dollars a day for the past year, so I guess it's a little different.

My lunches have been progressively getting better (read: more meat).

I can't tell. They all seem pretty linear to me. I can't indentify 90% of what I consume anyway. The best way for me to judge the quality of K-chow (Purina?) is to document the time I spend in the bathroom every night!!

U guys realize the same company that serves the crappy food in the cafeterias is the same company who serves crappy food in universities throughout American? Ara-kor is under Aramark. It's amazing that company has learned how to make disgusting food in two cultures, yet the CEO is richer than all of us combined in this thread. Something is seriously wrong with that picture.

Mine's been getting better, but that's because it's been more pork and chicken and less fish and squid.

Mine's also been very slightly better the last few weeks. I think it is because a lot of Korean dishes are in season right now - the vegetables taste fresher than normal.

School boy error, even if you don't want to eat anything put a bit in each portion of your tray and then just throw it all away. That's what my teachers do if they're on a diet (reading starving themselves until they look slim).

None of you will truly know the gross/disgusting cafeteria food until you've done the truck food Confused At my last school we didn't have a cafeteria, it was transported in each day.

At most schools it's the norm for all teacher's to go on the school's plan. At my last schools maybe half of the teacher's did. They couldn't stand the food and I don't blame them! As inexpensive as it was, I could only stand 2 months of it (and I'm not a picky eater).

Now I'm at a school with an actual cafeteria, the food is 1000 won cheaper per meal and tastes tons better! There are some days when I wonder who thought the menu was 'nutritious'. (today's and yesterday's unfortunately) But the quality of ingredients and taste is far better than my last school! Very Happy
