Our book club's first discussion meeting is going to take place tomorrow at What the Book?, at 6PM. We will be discussing "Midnight's Children" by Salman Rushdie. Even if you have not read the book, stop by and join us. At this meeting we will be picking April's reading--you can help pick it!. In March, we will be reading "A Quiet American" by Graham Greene.
All the book club books are offered at a substantial discount to those who attend the previous meeting. There are a good number of people who are in the club (eight or nine so far). So don't worry about being stuck with two freaks and a book.

So am I. I have to stick to beer though. Hard to find a good dry white wine here in Korea.

I would like to Recommend American Psycho by Bret Easton Ellis for next month.

It's one of my favorites and would love to join in an Ellis discussion. Rushdie seems a bit cerebral for a throwback like myself.

Just curious.. how do people organize book clubs? Are there a list of questions and a moderator or something? Or people just sit down to coffee or beer or whatever and just start talking about it at random?

I also think this would be a really interesting book to read, though not for the faint of heart. Smile The movie version they show in Korea seems really really really edited. Confused I always liked the analogy Ellis was using to desribe the 80s. I'll save the rest of my chatter if we use this book in March. (please...please...please)

I'll be in Seoul in March...and am a lazy-ass. Could you please PM me the details for this book club? I'd love to join.
Tiger Beer, the last book club I was in, we all met at a coffee shop and just discussed the book, our favorite passages, what the author was getting at, whether we liked the book or not.

What about the Beano? Now there is a great comic or is this the wrong sort of book club?

I'm pretty sure books with pictures may be discouraged in this club. Smile
