With much lower rates of both.

As opposed to the West?

Koreans are drug addicts.. but in their mind they don't think they are drug addicts becuase its LEGAL!

they dont realise they are addicted to a substance! they think its perfectly fine...

look at them in their smoking areas! they are toking on those cigs, taking huge inhales to get that buzz.. I know Koreans who smoke 3 one after another to get their fix! if thats not addicted.. I dont know what is...

cigarettes should be illegal! they should be banned! all factories closed down! its the worst drug out there.. and KILLS MILLIONS!!!
is your government listening?? do they really care?

If you want to be taken seriously, don't call cigarette users and drinkers 'drug addicts'. We know that technically they are, but its way different.

We have terms for the kind of addicts habitual tobacco and alcohol consumers are- smokers and alcoholics.

As for banning cigs- Could you please explain to me the detailed history of alcohol prohibition and the war on drugs and their effects on society and crime. Then tell me again if you think its a good idea to make them illegal.

While you complain about the smoking and drinking going on here, most of your friends, relatives, and fellow citizens back home are taking daily doses of Xanaz, prozac, pain killers, birth control, steroids, sleeping pills, etc., just to make it through the week.

Smokers are drug addicts, its not different at all. They're addicted to a substance that is harmful and makes them keep coming back regardless.

Tobacco is an addictive drug, the use of which will result in the premature deaths of 1 of every 3 of our youth who begin smoking every day. And, tobacco is illegal for anyone under 18. [Executive Summary, The Regulations Restricting the Sale and Distribution of Cigarettes and Smokeless Tobacco To Protect Children and Adolescents, Food and Drug Administration, August 23, 1996]

The only difference is that its seen as socially acceptable. I dont think smoking or alcohol should be banned, but i think there are safer drugs than either that by rights should be legalised.

The drug classification is based on social and moral views ( no matter how warped ), not how harmful the drugs are.

Really? Most?

Most people in Western Canada are taking daily doses of these things? Where are you getting this from?

I'm pretty sure women aren't taking birth control just to make it through the day, if so that'd be quite a day.

Way different? cigarette addicts which pretty much are 90% of all smokers! need to smoke daily! they smoke all day and everyday and will have withdrawals if they don't get their hit! to me thats an addict!

If you are talking about crack heads who will blow you for a hit.. then thats different these are extreme drug addicts.. but smokers have to be labeled as extreme addicts! becuase they have to smoke or they will suffer major withdrawals. That's addicted.
and they will keep damaging their lungs, slowly killing themselves and not to mention affect the people around them with second hand smoke. they will stop at nothing to smoke.

so what are the benefits of having cigarettes legal?
seems to me it does more harm than good.
don't know many social smokers do you?
everyone I know are social drinkers or enjoy a class or beer or a glass of wine after work..
don't know anyone who enjoys a cigarette after work.. more like he is having his 8th or 10th for the day. because he has too!

The more people that do them the more it's acceptable. I like a drinky drink every once and a while. My wife won't let me smoke cigars though... I miss them ...

Of course alcohol is mind-altering. Whose position is it that it isn't? As I said, pot is more psychedelic than alcohol and they are, as such, decidedly different. One might say - using very broad strokes - that pot is a little like a hallucinogenic and alcohol more like the opiates.
