I think the Democrats are gonna get clobbered.

Virginia is gonna go back to a Red State, the way it SHOULD be.

Democrats deserve to get clobbered; they've pissed away an opportunity and sold out their constituents.

No state should be a red state. Entirely independent of conservative vs liberal politics, the Republican Party is a filthy den of hypocrisy and disingenuity. A new major conservative party (preferably, an economically conservative yet socially liberal party) really needs to rise up to replace the Republicans, because they're utterly disgusting in pretty much everything they do.

If only we could have a party like this, life would be grand.

Not a major party. If they could replace Republicans as the majority conservative party, though, I think our nation would be better off.

VA is going to go back to red because deeds sucks. Pretty much any half-decent Republican could beat him.

NJ is a more interesting, closer race.

So make the libertarians THAT party. More and more people are finding themselves agreeing with libertarian ideals. Plus, there are no federal elections this year, it's all state and local stuff. You can't expect a libertarian to come in and win big federal races unless they start building at the local (city/county) and state levels first.

I just hope the libertarians back off of some of their more extreme positions and try and ease people into their way of thinking. Some of their positions are a bit too outside the realm of reality at this point.

What do you suggest? What is extreme? To Advocate the economically conservative part is easy(ie. tax cuts, less regs ect.) yet being socially liberal is a bit tougher. Where to begin? I'd start with repealing DOMA, allowing gays to openly serve in the military, and at least advocate moving marijuana from schedule 1 to schedule 2. I'd like to also see a wind down of our foreign military adventures but the neocons will probably have none of that.

Libertarian Suzy Heinbockel was running for Ocala City Council, District 1 and came in second, so she is now in the runoff in November.

I also understand that Libertarians are moving into New Hampshire in an attempt to take over that state. They have already won some local elections.

I wouldn't even say the economically conservative part is necessarily easy since most of the people in full support of the socially liberal stuff would take offense to the notion of cutting back and ultimately eliminating social programs. That's the dilemma of the two party demographic split: You got your social programs attached to social liberty thanks in large part to LBJ's Great Society and you have your hands off economics attached to social conservatism following the rise of the Moral Majority in reaction to Goldwater's loss.

At a more basic level, the former two go together because the marginalized of society are seen as both let down by a lack of government assistance and targeted by unnecessary Puritanical laws against personal freedoms. Similarly, the latter two go together because the religious conservatism that prompts efforts against counterculture activities tends to also breed the "pull yourself up from the bootstraps" mentality. Judging from my friends though, you might be right; I've yet to meet an originally all around conservative leaning person who's come around on the issue of expanded personal liberties and yet I already know several socially liberal minded people who've decided smaller government would be best for the economy.

I agree.

Plus, the Libertarian Party blew it in 2008 by having Barr as its candidate. Even though I wasn't going to vote for McCain or Obama, I didn't want to vote for Barr since he voted for the Iraq Circle Jerk and the Patriot Act. I liked the Boston Tea Party's platform, but there are far too few libertarians to have multiple libertarian parties right now, if ever. There needs to be unity. I ended up voting for Nader last year even though I really wanted to vote for a hardcore libertarian, and I hope they can come up with a good candidate in 2012, since the American Dream will have turned into a nightmare of such proportions that people will no longer be complacent enough to simply check the R or D. I hope they don't blow the opportunity.

In the end, when the economy crashes, America might end up libertarian by default since there won't be enough money to fund the government programs or money to pay bureaucrats and police to tell us how it's going to be. Laughing

I would like to see a decent democrat or a candidate from another liberal party replace Joe Lieberman.

Replace Republicans with Democracts and I'd have to agree with this post. In fact both parties need to be replaced.

I have to admit, the recent actions of the Democratic party have shown that for the sake of our nation it would probably be best to replace them too.
