Wow! Never new it was so cheap!

I keep finding another wifi called "123123" usually on the bus in Busan. Anybody know anything about this?

I've run across that one a few times w. my ipod touch as well. I figure its likely the default network name for a certain brand of wireless router.

iptime is simply a router brand. It's as popular as Linksys is overseas. The reason you're seeing it so much, yet unable to connect to it, is that you are simply out of range. True, someone could set up a MAC address block, but if they're doing that, they'd probably have changed the router name.

I tend to feel that some of the better iptime routers have some of the best range, but if you're too far away to transmit back, then you're SOL.

Hi, I've just got an Ipod Touch and the coverage in Korea isn't bad but I would like it a bit better.
I'm really interested in the 3,000w deal p/w that Nespot are offering. I can't for the life of my find it anywhere on the internet other than in forums such as this and reviews about the IPhone in Korea.

Could someone please post an up to date link for Nespot so I can get on it.
Thanks
Also if anyone could tell me if Nespot is very accessible, i.e. will I have coverage going the length of the country by train?

Again thanks in advance.

no. Nespot isn't wimax. The trains have internet on them but it doesn't work with iphones or touches because you need to use a web page to first register your device and login on the train and it doesn't work on mobile safari.

If you are interested in nespot play, just walk to a kt office and sign up.

iptime and anygate are the "linksys" of Korea. They're just home routers with unconfigured settings, including the name. They might work or they might not.

nespot is, as stated before this post, a paid service. 3,300 won per month for unlimited internet. It also comes free with an iPhone contract so that you don't eat up your 3G data when near a hotspot.

I just signed up for Nespot for my iPod Touch 4G this morning. I called KT (1588-8448) and told the representative I wanted to sign up for Nespot for use on my iPod Touch. She said no problem, asked for my foreigner ID registration number, my name, mailing address, and MAC address and that was it. I was quite surprised at how fast it was done.

The girl I spoke with told me it was 8,000 WON a month plus tax which would come to a grand total of 8,800 WON per month. She said I could subscribe to a 1 year, 2 year, or 3 year contract and save some money, but I told I wanted to do month to month, no contractual obligations.

She didn't even ask for my bank account, she told me that I needed to pay 8,800 WON on the 25th of every month and at my request, she could do a direct withdraw from my bank account every month, which I registered for.

She didn't ask for a copy of my foreigner ID card, my bank book, nothing. It was quite painless. In all it took less than 10 minutes total, and there was no need to visit a KT store nor fax any documents over.

The girl also told me it would take about an hour for service to kick in, so about an hour later I stepped outside and tried it, and am quite surprised at how wide spread Nespot is, and of course my service does work also.

sounds really good.
I've got a touch but i also have a mac book that registars nespot but obviously i'm not signed up.
does anyone know if you can get this nespot on a macbook?

It's irrelevant whether or not it's a Mac or a PC, wifi is the standard, and the Mac has wifi.

You can get it for the Mac, but it's much more expensive than the iPod subscription (the iPod only nespot play is stuck to the mac address of the iPod)

An option for when 3.0 OS comes out is that you could possibly tether your iPod to the Mac, thereby getting internet on your Mac for 3,300 won per month. Might be worth waiting on that. Another alternative is the jailbreak the touch.

Or change the MAC address of your laptop.

i got this done, however, it doesn't work 100% of the time. sometimes i get connected to nespot and i can't access the internet, so i have to switch to qookshowbasic, and sometimes that'll work, or vice versa. but that doesn't even work 100% of the time. i wonder why, anyone know?

Am I doing something wrong?

Every time I want to use nespot I have to type in my login and password. It sucks. Typing it in on my iphone is annoying, and I'm normally out of range shortly after anyway. I guess it's good if you sit around in public a lot??

I just stick with 3g most of the time if I'm on the go.. if I'm at home or work I have wifi anyway.

Does KT have limits for 3G data with iPhones? There's unlimited wifi with some plans but I didn't see anything mentioned for 3G.

wifi is always unlimited. KT has no idea what you're doing with WIFI. Any plan 55k and above has unlimited 3G.
