One of the really annoying things about living in Korea is having to listen to K-pop everywhere I go. In restaurants, shops, on television, at the gym...it's even played from buildings as you're walking on the steeet. It's everywhere and it's just atrociously bad. I've never heard worse quality music in my life. But Koreans love it....because it's Korean. But Christ Almighty, it's like they took the very worst of Western pop music and ran it through a garbage incinerator. It's that bad...and it's everywhere!

Where do you live?

I'd love to live in an area where they blasted k-pop everywhere. I like that stuff. SNSD any day of the week.

The sappy kpop love songs feel very out of place when I'm trying to get my drink on at a Hof.

i really think bbong jak is a much better native music.

I can't stand the newer bubble gum pop - Gee Gee Gee almost did me in. However, I don't mind older Korean music - I actually like some of the older folkier sounding music that the ajeossi bus drivers in Incheon play. Even trot is alright with me - I'd rather listen to 4 hours of trot than 4 minutes of the Wondergirls.

We're not discussing traditional Korean music here. We're discussing k-pop. Apples and oranges.

K Pop is pretty bad, but for me, the worst was the Hill Song Church.

Yeah I also prefer the 뽕짝 music that the bus & taxi drivers play, the melodies are exotic, the singing is expressive and emotional, and the cheesy electronic keyboard and horn parts and offbeat rhythm kinda remind me of reggae music.

A lot of the bbongjjak songs are very, very sad though. I can only understand a few words but they usually bum me out. I bet if I could actually understand all the lyrics they'd make me want to kill myself.

The absolute worst K-pop I've ever heard is that 4Minute song "Muzik." I don't like the muzik, please do stop the muzik!!!

I too like the older cheesy ajoshi music that's sometimes played in taxis and public areas, with its 70s keyboards and saxophones. So it's not Korean music per se I dislike.

I defend Korea in many things. But, yes, I don't know any music worse than Korea's atrociously bad modern K-pop with its interchangeable dancers and bland, safe, mindless music and lyrics. Hip hop is irritating enough (so I'm old). Hip-hop being performed in a foreign language -- with the occasional 'baby' and 'dance' thrown in to be trendy -- by people who look like cross-dressing gangsters or twelve-year old strippers ought to be classified as a war crime.

I'd say country music is far worse.

Or some weird, ambient experimental music like Tortoise.

Church worship music is also pretty bad.

Not saying I don't dislike K-pop, but I find some of it catchy and enjoyable. I love Gee Gee Gee--but maybe more the music video than the actual song.

I could not agree with you anymore. I grew up in a rural area and had to live with that nonsense being blasted everywhere.

I don't mind K-pop. Probably because I don't hear it everywhere I go.

It's excruciatingly annoying but having to listen to it played in the gym makes me want to pick up a dumbbell and smash it in the temple of the people responsible for playing it. It takes the greatest amount of self control to control oneself and not do this.

In fairness, ballads of all kinds especially Korean males crooning saranghae in the gym have a similar effect.

It forced me to spend a lot of money on very good earbuds.

Lmao. It's funny you mentioned that. The dance class last week played the song over and over and over, sometimes just playing a few lines over and over for half the day.
