I'm leaving soon to go back home after fulfilling my year-long contract at a hagwon and I'm wondering what to do about good-bye presents. Are my directors expecting one? If so, what should I get them? What about co-workers? I'm not sure the protocol on this topic.
Thanks for your help in advance. |

Don't do what I did when I left after teaching at the same school for two years and give nothing to teachers you worked with for most of that time. There were really only 4-5 K teachers and 3-4 foreign teachers that I should of given a card or something to. In the rush to train in my replacement and pack up two years worth of crap I kinda of forgot, and felt bad for that when it occurred to me a few days after I was gone. What I did was send a big box of candy/chocolate/junk food from Canada for the full teaching staff. I think they appreciated that more than some random gift from Lotte Mart or something. I hope anyway lol. |

When leaving, don't worry about it. Just remember Chuseok and New Years. |

Your boss should give you for Chuseok and Seollal. They don't expect anything so don't spend your hard earned won. Just a firm handshake and goodbye and be on your way. |

If you were really happy at the school you could always write them a letter of recommendation and list your current contact email so any future candidates can contact you. That would go a long way in helping them recruit people and you might be surprised how proud some business owners are to have something like that.
If you weren't that happy, like someone else said, a handshake and a thank you should do fine. |
