I'm mildly frustrated that no matter how many times I say to the taxi driver the name of my school, they still don't understand me. And every Korean friend I have has told me that on the phone, they have to listen hard to know I'm not Korean... the very few phrases I do know, my kids hammered into me the exact correct pronounciation. So, why the hell does the taxi driver act like I'm speaking Farci when I tell him this one phrase that I have practiced hundreds of times? |
He does not know where the school is and is afraid to admit it. |

Bush is the first American president to have an MBA. intellectually challenged? |
Bush was a legacy admission who performed poorly academically. |
Idiots don't graduate from Harvard, no matter how they got in, and his father went to Yale, not Harvard.
I could be wrong implying there was no legacy. Maybe his grandfather went to Harvard. |

I tested this today... I recorded myself saying the name of my school on the voice recorder of my mp3 player. When I got into the taxi, I played it for him and off we went without a problem... figures. |

Who said anything about Harvard?
And yes, idiots can and do graduate from any university. Go Terps! |

about what reelys wrote.....
That is funny.... the taxi driver understood the recording, not knowing it was the voice of you, the foreigner, but couldn't seem to understand you saying the same thing directly?
I guess something happens when they see that foreign face. But ya know, I am surprised when a stranger who is obviously not a native speaker of English, speaks it well. I think I just expect poor or no English from most Koreans (and others, like Japanese, Chinese...). |

Come on now... I did pretty well at Maryland. Smarter than half the professors there anyway, not that that says a whole lot... |

Well, what was his GPA at Yale? I seem to recall reading it was somewhere below 3.0.
I suppose he got a perfect score on the GMAT.
Gee.....the son of George H.W. Bush, lacking good grades and (I'm guessing) good test scores applies to Harvard. Somehow I doubt his application gets tossed in the circular file.
And although none of us can say for sure, I myself have no doubt that George W. Bush was a legacy admission at Yale. Surely you are aware that legacy admissions at Ivy League schools are not an uncommon practice. |
