For real. Let's see, I the only place I was refused service was at whatsitsface garden shop trying to buy house plants. This was solved by me walking across the street to the other store where the lady was more patient with my lack of Korean.
Other than that no refused service anywhere. None.

Well then it must never happen. Case closed, Korea is shangri-la. |
Not saying it doesn't happen. I am saying that if it did happen to the point of being a pervasive problem in Korea, I would expect a list by page six. |
It is pervasive. If you haven't experienced, it's a near certainty that you will. |
I must have missed the pervasiveness during my first nineteen years here, I'm sure you are right though and during my next nineteen it will surely be a problem for me. |

The only time I've personally seen foreigners not allowed in a bar was at one of the Zen Bars in Shinchon a few years back. I was with a group of foreign students and we were the only ones asked for our IDs. Since we never had been asked for our IDs before, only some of us had IDs with us. We were pretty surprised. I asked them why, and the reasoning they gave us was that the last time they had foreigners at the bar, they got rowdy and there was a fight.
So apparently, drunk foreigners don't fight if they have their IDs on them.
A minor annoyance since everywhere else we went to had no problem with us. If they want to reduce their own business, that's their problem.
I have never been refused because I was foreign or Asian in the US, even if I got some looks. In fact, it was easier since all asians supposedly look alike, I can get into a bar using another asian guy's ID. |

Disgraceful. A lot of foreign teachers will be the movers and shakers back in the English speaking world in decades to come. They'll remember these negative experiences in Korea and will decide to invest elsewhere. |
Movers and shakers?? Really?? |

Any bars where they don't allow kyopos?
Also, is there any discrimination laws regarding Korean citizens here? |
