| I think I've seen about 40 of the movies on there. There are some movies on there that I don't think should be on there at all! A lot of them were good movies but really not worthy of being on any top 100 list. Different strokes for different folks, I guess. |

Old boys a good flick (not top 100 but a good one).
One korean movie I really enjoyed was R point.
One of the categories I use for great movies is re-watchablity and both old boy and r point had that for me |

I have seen 70 of these films, and as is always the case with these types of lists, there is plenty of room for dispute. Someone asked if anyone had seen Cache, and I have. In terms of sheer cinematicism, it is outstanding. The write up given by the reviewer in this article pretty much nails it.
I probably wouldn't have given it the number one spot on my list, that would probably go to Persepolis or Waltz with Bashir, but for any true cinephiles out there, Cache is well worth watching. |

| I'm at 39, but I think the list is completely insane. I'm glad that Grizzly Man is up there in the top, but it's followed by one of the Bourne movies. This seems more like a list of movies that were highly seeded on mininova than a list that someone thinks are the greatest movies of the decade. |

Seen 46 of them
Around 70% of them don't even deserve to be on a top 500 or 1000 list of all time however.
I guess they're being generalist and trying to please everyone.
One of the reasons I decided against journalism a long time ago whe I was seriously considering it. I could never submit myself to being a genralist or submitting to 'in house' style...
How many film critics have to tailor their reviews due to the fact that movie producers and distributors (hollywood scum) have their dirty talentless fingers in every pie connected to the movie industry including mags like Empire et al...? |

Whatever you do, don't watch #30. It is so not worth it.
Furthermore, I don't get why everyone loves Slumdog Millionaire so much. |

The following I had no plans of seeing, but must I? I guess so.
Quote:
100 The Devil Wears Prada (David Frankel, 2006)
34 Finding Nemo (Andrew Stanton/Lee Unkrich, 2003)
20 Donnie Darko (Richard Kelly, 2001)
17 Brokeback Mountain (Ang Lee, 2005) 11 Borat: Cultural Learnings of America for Make Benefit Glorious Nation 9 The Queen (Stephen Frears, 2006)
Dd is worth a watch, but not great, entertaining, quirky but ultimately forgetable and somewhat 'teenage angsty.' BBM is a gorgeous, lovely paced, heartbreaking masterpeice with amazing acting talent and a very poignant last scene. A must watrch for any serious film fan.
These I have on DVD and will likely be selling on Dave's once I get around to watching them:
Quote:
97 Sympathy for Lady Vengeance (Park Chan-Wook, 2005)
95 Amores Perros (Alejandro Gonzlez Irritu, 2000) 94 An Inconvenient Truth (Davis Guggenheim, 2006)
88 The Royal Tenenbaums (Wes Anderson, 2001)
85 The Piano Teacher (Michael Haneke, 2001)
66 City of God (Fernando Meirelles, Katia Lund, 2002)
35 Y Tu Mam Tambin (Alfonso Cuarn, 2002) 28 The Diving Bell and the Butterfly (Julian Schnabel, 2007)
25 Dancer in the Dark (Lars Von Trier, 2000)
6 Slumdog Millionaire (Danny Boyle, 2008)
AP and YTMT you most likely will want to keep after watching. TRT's may or not be to your taste but is a great American indy movie, very quirky and superb acting.
These I think NOT deserving of the list (unless it's granted it's been a poor decade for depth), have glaring deficiencies imo, despite some good things about them:
Quote:
90 Wedding Crashers (David Dobkin, 2005)
78 About Schmidt (Alexander Payne, 2002)
63 There Will Be Blood (Paul Thomas Anderson, 2007)
52 The Constant Gardener (Fernando Meirelles, 2005)
41 Children of Men (Alfonso Cuarn, 2006)
40 Syriana (Stephen Gaghan, 2005)
2 The Bourne Supremacy / The Bourne Ultimatum (Paul Greengrass, 2004, 2007)
You have to be kidding!!!!! TWBB is one of the films of the decade! Some of the best acting, character study, cinematography, pacing of the decade! The final scene where he realises he's got it all out of his system and knows he couldn't have been any other way than the driven, manipulative, mostly selfish an he was even if it wouldv'e beenn easier is truly gorgeous. Such an anti climatic, anti hollywood ending...!
These I've never heard of but am now interested in seeing (seen any of these? whatdidyouthink?) :
Quote:
96 Morvern Callar (Lynne Ramsay, 2002)
44 Under the Sand (Franois Ozon, 2000)
4 Grizzly Man (Werner Herzog, 2005)
I've been wanting to get my hands on a good DVD copy of these :
Quote:
56 Volver (Pedro Almodovar, 2006)
53 Milk (Gus Van Sant, 2008)
Milk watchable yet overhyped and forgetable. Penn is fab in it though. Volver is very good but Almoldovars other movie on the list 'Talk to her' is a bloody beautiful gem and much better.
As for #1, the Iraq war allusion makes it smell as deserving a number one spot as Obama's Nobel Peace Prize. I dunno if I'll see it. Who saw it and how was it?

Slumdog millionaire was OK, not a top ten in my book. It seemed like a typical hollywood movie, just using way underpaid actors(dont get me wrong, there is no way in hell that the top actors in the US should make what they do.) in a foreign country. I don't know why everyone is always tonguing its balls. |

| In the Mood for Love should be in the top 10 at least if not the top 5 of those on the list. |

I just watched #1. Hidden (Cache).
I'm completely flabbergasted that it could be number one.
Can someone please enlighten me in case I missed something. Literally nothing happened. I thought there was going to be some twist ending, then the credits rolled.
?
What the hell?
Maybe I missed something?
Oh yea. One movie that should be on the list is Memories Of Murder. Probably better than the sympathy trilogy (imo).
Ratatouille should be on the list too.
Still. WTF? I'm seriously stumped about this movie. |
