Do you know what the channel tunnel is?

For what? I don't care about LD. I'm 100% indifferent.

He quit. Though the fact that his house was shot at a few weeks back might have played a part.

He strongly opposes legal and illegal immigration. Oh well. Get over it. 20% unemployment in the USA. Get ready to hear a hell of a lot more about immigration.

| I'm sorry, but that's what actually happened. He didn't get ratings because the ignorant minority were busy tuning into Beck. |
CNN as a whole has terrible ratings. I'm waiting for Wolf or Cooper to get canned, then.

| He did code his language and he presented ridiculous assetions as real problems - i.e. that video you brought up - Mexican truck drivers being 'dangerous'. |
And maybe they are. Have you done research into the specific details? I haven't. But I accept that foreign products have to meet xyz safety standards and I don't think it "racist" to discuss this.

| He didn't field an interview about truck regulations did he? |
I don't know. I don't watch him. I don't watch any of them. They are fodder for proles. It's like a sporting event. People X have their team and people Y another. And each side thinks the other side is evil. I have my preferences and you have yours.

| Reminder: he failed to report the news about Obama birth certificate. |
So what? Because he talked about birthers every other position is wrong? Or that makes him a racist/xenophobe etc?
You might have to suffer from more of him, however:

Ha... yea, he gave up his excellent position at CNN to concentrate on.... his radio career.... errr... no... He was sacked.

You didn't watch the video. They weren't discussing axel size.

Oh.

No. He failed to present the news. It's important people get news... not opinion.... or conjecture... like Dobbs saying Obama hasn't supplied a birth certificate.
Stupid and high time he was cut. |

Rufus, if you really think Lou Dobbs is anti-immigration because he is a racist, you're being extremely simplistic and ignorant of anti-immigration sentiment through both history and the world today.
Lou Dobbs is a loudmouth douche, just like Keith Olberman, Glenn Beck, et al. No more, no less. |

No. Olberman provides facts. People like Dobbs, Beck or O'Reilly don't - they provide wild conjecture and supposition.
Being anti-immigrant is fine, but Dobbs based this opposition on the 'facts' that immigrants were bringing in leprosy and H1N1, or on the belief the President wasn't born in the U.S.. Ignorance and bigotry don't deserve a place in any argument. This is exactly why he was sacked. |

The first interview he featured highlighted the 'safety issues' of letting Mexican drivers into the country. Can you not see the subtext? (Mexican drivers are likely to be doing something illegal). Do you think Britain demands Britsh drivers anywhere over 20 miles from its border? The real issue is Dobbs presupposing Mexicans are threats and shouldn't be trusted within America's borders.
This is a single example btw. |
Rufus,
Have you considered that Mexico is a developing country with minimal rule of law? As such, safety inspections for vehicles are poorly regulated and slipping the inspector some money will guarantee any vehicle will pass. If you have driven in Mexico as I have, you will have noticed countless unsafe vehicles on the road. No American that I know with extensive knowledge of Mexico wants Mexican heavy trucks on American highways.
Since the Brits don't share a border with a 3rd world armpit like Mexico, British laws with respect to foreign vehicles are irrelevant to this argument.
As for Dobb's being a racist, it is a way to attack the man and not his ideas. BTW, his wife is Mexican-American and in the US legally! |

| posts like this wont go anywhere because this board is full of Canadian and Americans who grew up in the 80's,90's, a time when political correctness was drilled through our skulls at school, the media and society so much it is impossible to have any rational discussion with most people when any mention of 'race' comes up |

Just noticed this.
Yeah, I do know what the chunnel is, and I know that only trains go through it. No cars drive through the channel tunnel.
The Republicans would have been better off had they left Palin sitting as Governor of Alaska. She is interesting and might be likable as a person, but she is unprepared for national office, and that's putting it nicely. All of the controversy should make her quite wealthy, even if she is never nominated for another office, so she can't complain. But she frequently comes across as silly, stupid, or uninformed - even though sometimes she's correct in her views.

Dobbs was not talking about the quality of the drivers or the vehicles... he was obviously supposing other things. |
