No luck yet. My co-worker is in the exact same situation and his xbox is a Korean one, putting a hole in my theory that perhaps it has to do with mine being a U.S. Xbox. Really sucks. Let me know if Microsoft gets back to you. I can't really call up xbox support as I would use the internet to call them, therefore couldn't connect my box to live when I'm connected with them.

after a few emails to xbox live and replies that said" as I understand it, you are having a problem with yada yada yada"

and me replying "no you don't understand! the problem is yada yada yada"

their last reply was " I'm sorry there is nothing we can do to help you"

so I think I'm going to give up and take my box to yongsan and get it modded and hopefully they can install the update to the game I am playing that needs an update then I will buy a bunch of copied games or a dvd burner and burn my own games.

Hum...

You should be able to sign up to your home version of your Xbox Live. I bought my Xbox in Korea, it's a Korean Xbox, but I'm linked up to the UK Xbox Live.

First, try to make your way over to Console Settings. You can change your menus into English. Then, if the Xbox Live content is still in Korean, you need to get yourself a new gamertag and sign up to your home one.

If you have any troubles, just post them here and I'll try to talk you through it. I'm at work now, so can't check, and it's been a couple of years since I signed up to Xbox Live here, so can't remember the process exactly. It was painless at the time though, so we should be able to make it easy for you too.

dp777 are you saying I should get a wired router and plug the wall plug into it then run a line to my xbox?

I have an old router somewhere in storage. I will try that!

on the last panel on your dashboard is console settings. the last choice on that list is initialize setup.

select that and it will let you choose language and location etc.

I tried that but no go.

I suspect the problem is:

my apartment building has an internet wire coming in then it is split to all the apartments in the building.

I think the line in to the building is firewalled and so no Live connection.

ASSA! I now have the update installed on my xbox!

today we hired a computer and internet expert to wire up every classroom in our school.

my wife asked him if he knew anything about xbox 360 and Live.

he said he did and I described my problem to him and he said he could fix it.

he came to our house and spent an hour trying everything he could think of and making lots of phone calls but no go.

finally I suggested he take my box to his home and try it on his internet.

he did so. came back 20 minutes later. gave me my box. said it updated no problem. the problem was the internet connection in my building.

now I can use cheat codes on mercenaries 2 which means: all weapons, all vehicles, all airstrikes, invincibility and unlimited nuclear bombs!

venezuela will be ashes before the night is through!

also, I have a 20 gig hard drive on my machine and I mentioned to him that I will go to yongsan to get bigger. he said he had a spare 60 he could give me.

he took the 20 off my machine and pulled out a screwdriver. he open the case and pulled out the mini 20 drive and slipped in a 60. then he closed the case and reattached to my machine. I didn't know that was possible, did you?

I took my machine to a friend of mine's and connected my xbox there and it updated no problem. It is obviously a problem with my connection here. When I think back I remember I was having problems with my router here, so I connected it direct. I think that is when the problem started. I saw the guy who had the same problem on youtube fixed his problem by buying a new router. I am going to try that too and I'll let you know how it goes. For now I updated Gears of War 2 and NHL 2010 so I'm happy.
