Sung to 'Private Dancer' by Tina Turner, written by Mark Knopfler.

All the kids come into these places
And the kids are all the same
You don't look at their faces
And you don't care about the names

You don't think of them as human
You don't think of them at all
You keep your mind on the money
And your face fixed against the clock

I'm your English teacher, teaching for money
I'll do what you want me to do
I'm your English teacher, teaching in Korea
Any old hagwon will do

I want to save 10 million won
And get out of here
Away from the stares and banality
Yeah I guess I want normality

All the kids come into these places
And the kids are all the same
You don't look at their faces
And you don't care about the names

I'm your English teacher, teaching for money
I'll do what you want me to do
I'm your English teacher, teaching in Korea
Any young white man will do

Korean won or dollars
UK pound sterling or Euros too
Let us all play hangman
Tell me, do you want to sing nursery rhymes again

I'm your English teacher, teaching for money
I'll do what you want me to do
I'm your English teacher, teaching in Korea
Any summer camp will do

All the kids come into these places
And the kids are all the same
You don't look at their faces
And you don't care about the names

You don't think of them as human
You don't think of them at all
You keep your mind on the money
And your face fixed against the clock

I'm your English teacher, teaching for money
I'll do what you want me to do
I'm your English teacher, teaching in Korea
Any old kimchi field will do..

No change necessary, apart from 'dying' to 'leaving':

All around me are familiar faces
Worn out places, worn out faces
Bright and early for their daily races
Going nowhere, going nowhere
And their tears are filling up their glasses
No expression, no expression
Hide my head I want to drown my sorrow
No tomorrow, no tomorrow

And I find it kind of funny
I find it kind of sad
The dreams in which I'm dying
Are the best I've ever had
I find it hard to tell you
'Cos I find it hard to take
When people run in circles
It's a very, very
Mad World

Children waiting for the day they feel good
Happy Birthday, Happy Birthday
Made to feel the way that every child should
Sit and listen, sit and listen
Went to school and I was very nervous
No one knew me, no one knew me
Hello teacher tell me what's my lesson
Look right through me, look right through me

During those last few weeks in Korea, I started humming this one:

Some glad morning when my contract's o'er,
I'll fly away;
To a home where they don't have kimchi,
I'll fly away (I'll fly away).

[Chorus]
I'll fly away, Oh Glory
I'll fly away; (from Korea)
When I die, Hallelujah, by and by,
I'll fly away (I'll fly away).

When the smell of kimchi's just a memory,
I'll fly away;
Like a bird from prison bars has flown,
I'll fly away (I'll fly away)

[Chorus]
I'll fly away, Oh Glory
I'll fly away; (from Korea)
When I'm done, Hallelujah, by and by,
I'll fly away (I'll fly away).

Just a few more weary days and then,
I'll fly away;
To a land where joy shall never end,
I'll fly away (I'll fly away)

[Chorus]
I'll fly away, Oh Glory
I'll fly away; (from Korea)
When I'm done, Hallelujah, by and by,
I'll fly away (I'll fly away).

I was happy in the haze of a drunken hour
But heaven knows I'm miserable now

I was looking for a job, then I found a job
And heaven knows I'm miserable now

In my life
Why do I give valuable time
To people who don't care if I live or die?

blah blah blah you know the rest

They act like they don't care
Smooth as silk, cool as air
Ooh, it makes you wanna cry

You dont know their name
Like adjosshis on the subway train
Ooh, it makes you wanna die

Ooh, don't you wanna come here
Wanna see kids play on phones?

Korea, you've gotta teach here
Go insane and out of your mind
Korea, only Korea
Does 2 million won sound real nice

I've not seen this before
Soju tents and heated floors
No chairs with tables full of fire

Cant stay away from the rain
TPs not allowed down the drain
K-pop sure does not inspire.

Don't you wanna make won?
Ooh, don't you wanna take some home?

Korea, you've gotta teach here
Go insane and out of your mind
Korea, only Korea
Does 2 million won sound real nice.

You pretend like you don't care
But exchange rates are everywhere
Ooh, it makes you wanna cry.

There is a hagwon in Busan
called the Rising Tide
and it's been a ruin
for many a poor noobs
god I know, I'm one

The co-workers were psychos
they sold my new blue jean
Wonjangnim was a drinking man
down in Hae-woon-dae

mother, tell the noobies
not to do what I have done
spend 11 months
in sheer misery
in the hagwon, Rising Tide.

[/b]GIRLS JUST WANNA HAVE WON

I come home in the morning light,
My mother says "Your dad and I just had a big fight"
Oh,mother,dear,
We're not the fortunate ones,
And girls,
They wanna have Won.
Oh,girls,
Just wanna have Won.

The handphone rings in the middle of the night,
My father yells "Tell your boyfriend he'd better run for his life."
Oh,daddy,dear,
I see you've drunk more than one,
But girls,
They wanna have Won,
Oh,girls,just wanna have
That's all they really want.....
Some Won....

When the shopping day is done,
Oh,girls,
They wanna have Won,
Oh,girls,
Just wanna have Won....

Girls,
They want,
Wanna have Won.
Girls,
Wanna have

Some boys take a beautiful Korean girl,
And hide her away from the rest of the world.
I want white skin so I stay outta the sun.
Oh,girls,
They wanna have Won.
Oh,girls,
Just wanna have
That's all they really want.....
Some Won....

I was totin' my pack along the long busy Bundang line,
When along came an ajjushi with Korean rice wine.
"If you're goin' to Bundang, Nom, with me you can ride."
And so I climbed into the cab and then I settled down inside.
He asked me if I'd seen a road with so many beautiful girls.
And I said, "Listen, I've traveled every road in this here Korean world!"

I've been everywhere, man.
I've been everywhere, man.
Crossed the schoolyards bare, man.
I've breathed the mountain air, man.
Of travel I've had my share, man.
I've been everywhere.

I've been to:
Guro, Yeongdungpo, Mapo, Hongdae,
Ilsan, Yongsan, Busan, Hyundai,
Chungju, Yeoju, Gwangju, Kundae,
Daejeon, Itaewon, Suwon, Beomgae,
Yeoido, Jeju-do, Dokdo, Anyang,
Gyeryong, Gyodae, and in Gangnam, I'm the man.

I've been everywhere, man.
I've been everywhere, man.
Crossed the schoolyards bare, man.
I've breathed the mountain air, man.
Of travel I've had my share, man.
I've been everywhere.

Purple haze all in my brain
Lately things just don't seem the same
Actin' funny, but I don't know why
'Scuse me, while I kiss the sky

Purple kimchi, all around
Don't know if I'm throwin' up or down
Am I happy or in misery?
Whatever it is, that coteacher, put a spell on me

Help me help me
Oh no no... no

Yeah
Purple kimchi, & incessant lies,
Don't know if it's day or night
You've got me blowin, blowin my mind
Is it tomorrow, or contract end time?

No, help me aw yeah! oh no no oh help me...

Let's have some more Johnny Cash...

We got hired by a hangwon, shiftier than Bernard Madoff,
We've been talkin' 'bout Korea, ever since the economy died out.
I'm goin' to Korea, I'm gonna mess around,
Yeah, I'm goin' to Korea,
Look out Korea land.

Well, go on down to Korea; go ahead and wreck your health.
Go play your hand you big-talkin' man, make a big fool of yourself,
Yeah, go to Korea; go comb your hair!
Honey, I'm gonna snowball Korea.
See if I care.

When I breeze into that country, people gonna stop and stare. (Hah!)
All them women gonna make me, teach 'em English that they don't know now,
I'm goin' to Korea, you can keep my dope.
'Cos I'm goin' to Korea.
"Goodbye," that's all she wrote.

But they'll laugh at you in Korea, and I'll be cheatin' with your best friend.
They'll lead you 'round town and make you eat a scalded hound,
And you will be puking with your head between your legs,
Yeah, go to Korea, you big-talkin' man.
And I'll be waitin' in Korea, hoping not to die by Fan,

Well now, we got hired by a hagwon, by three guys all named Kim
We've been talkin' 'bout Korea, ever since the economy died out..
I'm goin' to Korea, and that's a fact.
Yeah, we're goin' to Korea, ain't never comin' back.

or maybe some Bob Marley

I bribed the sheriff
But I didn't bribe no deputy, oh no! Oh!
I bribed the sheriff
But I didn't bribe no deputy, ooh, ooh, oo-ooh.)
Yeah! All around my officetel,
They're tryin' to track me down;
They say they want to bring me in guilty
For teaching English privately,
For teaching English privately.
But I say:

Oh, now, now. Oh!
(I bribed the sheriff.) - the sheriff.
(But I swear it was in dollars and cents.)
Oh, no! (Ooh, ooh, oo-oh) Yeah!
I say: I bribed the sheriff - Oh, Lord! -
(And they say it is a capital offence.)
Yeah! (Ooh, ooh, oo-oh) Yeah!

Sheriff Kim always hated me,
For what, I don't know:
Every time I said, to Takeshima Id like to go
He said hed kill me before I go -
He said hed kill me and throw me into the East Sea.
And so:

Read it in the news:
(I bribed the sheriff.) - the sheriff.
(But I swear it was in dollars and cents.)
Oh, no! (Ooh, ooh, oo-oh) Yeah!
I say: I bribed the sheriff - Oh, Lord! -
(And they say it is a capital offence.)
Yeah! (Ooh, ooh, oo-oh) Yeah!

Freedom came my way one day
And I started out to Incheon Airport, yeah!
All of a sudden I saw sheriff Kim
Driving fast to run me down,
So I shot - I shot - I shot him down and I say:
If I am guilty, it's because my handphone bill I did not pay.
